Cradle cap remedies/advice

Beansonapost · 15/06/2017 17:16

My DS 2 months has cradle cap.

I have no idea what to do as my DD never had it. I've tried numerous oils etc. and nothing seems to be working..it looks just the same next morning.

I used olive oil consistently for one week... nothing changed!

Anyone have other remedies? or should I just leave it?

Baby oil worked better than olive oil for my son. In fact it worked so well that all his hair came out too Blush
He's 11 now with a beautiful thatch so no harm done Grin

coconut oil?

it will eventually go away on its own though.

After trying loads of different things, I sprayed ds head with my Argan oil then combed against the cradle cap, a fair amount of hair fell out with it and it's the only thing to have gotten rid of it permanently!

Get olive oil from the chemist and a nit comb. Slather head in oil at night. In morning, enjoy yourself combing out the cradle cap with the nit comb. When DD had it, DH found it so satisfying he made himself late for work.

I used olive oil, then wet the hair in the bath (just with warm water and a bit of baby shampoo) and brushed it gently with a soft baby hairbrush. Lots came off on the brush.

Next night I repeated the same technique with cradle cap shampoo and lots more came off on the brush, and even more rinsed off with the shampoo.

I think the third time of wet-brushing and shampooing cleared it up.

But my DC was older. I probably wouldn't use cradle cap shampoo on a tiny little baby. I think my DC was more like 8 months old.

I used oil (Weleda calendula) and a nit comb. I also used a baby toothbrush to loosen some of it.

I found ignoring it as must as possible worked a treat! Grin #LazyMother

We used olive oil and Dentinox shampoo from time to time.

I can still pick bits off DS3(7)'s scalp now if I go looking for it....

ColdTeddy · 15/06/2017 17:40

tried the oil/dentinox/picking bits off method with ds1 - he's still got a full head of cradle cap at 3 years old. He also lost all his beautiful baby hair from where it had come off from all the oiling and picking Sad.

Went for the dentinox and cradle cap brush approach with ds2 - took a couple of weeks to get rid of it all then it was gone for good.

I used baby oil.

I would work it into the scalp last thing at night and leave it until morning. Then I found it just combed out with a baby comb.

Coconut oil left on for an hour or so then combed out in the bath. Took two goes and then never came back.

Furcat85 · 15/06/2017 17:50

Loyon from Boots took all my baby's cradle cap off in 3 applications, it's like magic.

PacificDogwod · 15/06/2017 17:53

How stubborn it is depends all on baby's skin type. Which will also determine whether it comes back or how old they are when it settles.
All the lotions and potions and shampoos are mainly there to make us feel better that we are doing something for our children Grin

Thanks ladies.

I know it will go away... it's so so ugly to look at.

Just read olive oil isn't the best... will try coconut oil and other recommendations Grin

Coconut oil, left for an hour or so then combed out with a nit comb.
Dd loved it, she'd fall asleep with me doing it.

Hullabaloo31 · 16/06/2017 13:23

I always used baby oil, put on an hour or so before dinner, then combed through with a plastic nit comb before bath and it all softens and just combs out. I found if I left it, it almost stopped new hair coming through.

Then into bath and gently wash - shampoo on FIRST as if you wet it the oil doesn't come out.

FartnissEverbeans · 16/06/2017 15:00

I used baby oil in the bath then rubbed it gently with a towel afterwards. I also picked at it! It goes slightly pink for about ten mins afterwards then it's gone.

Have seen lots of good reviews for the child's farm shampoo- lots of people saying it made a huge difference
