Sleeping through night

Hi as I'm a new parent looking for advice, according to the formula my baby needs 24 oz formula in 24 hours weight X 2.5 my question is when at some point do babies sleep through the night and take correct amount earlier during the day and up to midnight

Depends on baby . I am for instance typing this toddler on lap who still wakes up 1-2 times a night.very unhelpful I know but did not want to read and run. Even though ds was always a 'terrible' sleeper it does get better. Good luck!

It really depends on the baby! I trad somewhere as a general rule once they hit 11-13lb they have enough reserves to keep them going through the night so they don't have to eat but that doesn't meant they won't want to!

My DC 1 slept through the night (properly, from 6pm until 6am) from 8 weeks. DC2 is almost 5 months and still eats every 3 hours around the clock! I haven the done anything differently... I could probably train him to go longer (pushing his feeds back and back until he goes until morning) but I don't really mind giving him some milk and a snuggle so I haven't bothered yet (he goes straight back to sleep after a feed. If he took ages to settle I'd be more inclined to take action).

My son was almost 2 before he slept through the night. He was on formula.

DD breastfed and slept through at 10 months
DS bottle fed and slept through at 18 months (sob)

I would aim to give the total recommended amount (at least) between 7am and 11pm, from as young as possible.

That may mean more feeds, rather than bigger feeds

This doesn't mean refusing a night feed two, still give bottles in the night if needed. But the aim is all the valirues in the daytime and night feeds are an added-extra, as it were.

So 24oz could be:

  • 3oz (offered 4oz bottles) at 7am 9am 11am 1pm 3pm 5pm 7pm 11pm
  • 4oz (offered 5oz bottles) at 7am 10am 1pm 4pm 7pm 11pm
  • 5oz (offered 6oz bottles) at 7am 11am 3pm 7pm 11pm

Then try to resettle without feeding in the night, but be prepared to feed if needed.

valirues = calories

They sleep through the night when they sleep through the night. There's no magic age.

I also wouldn't get too caught up in calculating formula re weight. Feed on demand.
