Grobag or not to grobag?

I need a bit of advice , ds is a wriggler in his sleep, he's 10 months now. I used a grobag when he was small, but didn't really carry it on, now he tends to wriggle out of covers and a feel a grobag is the best thing, but worried he'll hate being restricted as he's not used to it, standing up in his cot etc.....has anyone else had any experience with older babies? Esp if they haven't been used to sleeping in a sleeping bag.
Be much appreciated.

I would be interested to hear any advice as DS, also 10 months, has been into a grobag since small but now keeps standing up in his cot and getting tangled and cross. I was thinking about taking him out but don't know about alternatives.

My dd is 17 months, and in a grobag unless it's very hot.
She can stand up in it and does not seem resticted. She's better in her M&P one though than one I got from a supermarket.

my dd1 hated grobag when she could stand but wouldnt stay under covers so only thing we found that worked was a fleece all in one sleepsuit (matalan, boots, mothercare etc sell them) and if it was really cold she'd have vest, cotton sleepsuit/pj's after bath and then fleece sleepsuit put on at bedtime if it wasnt freezing she'd have vest and fleece sleepsuit on after bath and thin blanket at bedtime

My ds is now 2.3 and in a grobag that fits up to age of 6. He loves it and won't go to sleep without it although he used to catapult himself out of his cot with it every morning and, now that he is in a "big bed", he shuffles to his bedroom door in it every morning then calls "Mummy, sleeping bag - OFF!". I only worry about the day he finally can't fit in it because I've never seen them made for children older than 6.

I am a big fan of grobags and as for restricting movement, they do!!!(but for me that was a good thing because it took ds a really long time to even try to get out of his cot on his own - even though he was walking at 10 months and was a bit of a climber - he never tried to escape his cot until he was well over a 1.5)

stinkymalinki · 19/03/2007 20:53

My DS was in a Grobag until his 1st birthday when he suddenly started standing up in the cot and kept getting all tangled up when he rolled over which woke him (and us!) up each time. Now he goes to bed in a sleepsuit under pyjamas and gets a blanket put lightly over him, but he's such a wriggler it doesn't stay put for long!

Jomaja · 19/03/2007 20:59

Apparently my sister and I were in sleeping bags for ages and used to walk around in them - no stopping us back then.

glassslipper · 19/03/2007 21:01

my dd had a sleeping bag until about 18 months. i took her out when she was trying to climb out of the cot

PanicPants · 19/03/2007 21:07

Ds loves his grobags - he's 19 months and I don't know what I'll do when he's finally too big for them.

He stands up in it - and shuffles about around the bedroom with it on. He's never tried to climb out of the cot.

Rantum - where did you get a grobag for upto 6yrs? I only thought you could get them upto 3?

madrose · 19/03/2007 21:07

My dd 2 is still in a gro bag - she loves it and every bed time 'bag bag bag' she has (until I dropped the cot base) jumped out the cot and shuffle out of the room.

Gro bags have been a god send for us

franca70 · 19/03/2007 21:14

I've always used grobags with mine. DD (nearly three) is still using one. However I brought two grobas to 2 friends in Italy for their dds then aged 1 and they didn't like it.
panicpants, I believe you can get grobags 3-5, on their website

margo1974 · 19/03/2007 21:19

I used grobags with DD1 until she moved into a bed. She slept fine in it and it was much better re laundry days

PanicPants · 19/03/2007 21:19

Thats good to know f, I can put that moment off for a few more years!!

thethirdwisemonkey · 19/03/2007 21:23

my ds is 22 months and is still in grobags, he loves them and calls them his baggies

Tinker · 19/03/2007 21:26

Mine started to hate it at about 12 months ish - got tangled, woke up in a nark. Tried fleecy sleepsuits - she hated those as well. So had to go for a light quilt (IKEA) which she loves.

notsolilKel · 19/03/2007 21:28

another Grobag addict here. DS never allowed swaddling and thinks blankets are playthings. They've even got very lightweight ones now for summer & daytime.

margo1974 · 19/03/2007 21:32

OOh and I had a Swaddle type of grobag when dd2 came along. that was great for a newborn

PanicPants - I got my grobag (3-6 years) on this link (sorry I can't do proper links):

www.bumpto3.com/category.aspx?DISPLAYCAT=sleep&CAT=Products&CATGRY=baby_sleeping_bags

From this website:

www.bumpto3.com

Rantum · 19/03/2007 21:38

That link might not work, but if you go to their website, look under "sleep" and then "grobags" you can select the thickness and the age group that you need...

Twinklemegan · 19/03/2007 21:41

An excellent site that sells grobags is Babygurgles .
I've had some good deals from there.

Rantum · 19/03/2007 21:43

Twinklemegan - how do you do links like that?

Twinklemegan · 19/03/2007 21:49

lol Rantum. When you type in your message there are a load of instructions to the right of the box. At the bottom it tells you how to do links.

So you type in \link{
Then open up a second browser window and find the weblink that you want to post.
Copy the whole web address from the address bar
Paste it in after the {
Type a \ followed by the description eg Babygurgles and a }
Preview your message to check it works.

Bob's your uncle!

Rantum · 19/03/2007 21:53

Oh yes, I see it now , so here goes...

here

is where I got my grobag.

Thanks, Twinkle [smile}

thepuddingchef · 19/03/2007 22:50
