Postpartum periods

Apologies in advance as I am not sure this is the right place to post and also for TMI.

I gave birth to DC2 in December. Had usual lochia following the birth, which disappeared in about 2 weeks. Since then I have had the occasional spotting which made me think that my periods were coming back, but it never turned out to be anything more than spotting.

Then finally yesterday there was more than a bit of spotting and I started my first postpartum period. What worries me is the amount I am bleeding.. Hence the 4am post! Yesterday evening, I soaked through a pad in a couple of hours.. Is this normal?

Not sure if this is relevant.. Yesterday I went back to the gym after a month's break. I have been regularly exercising since March, but took a break in May because of DH's work schedule. Yesterday I finally woke up early to go to the gym only to realise I have started my periods. Usually I don't gym during my periods as I get too tired, but I didn't want to skip gym after making the effort of gettting up at 5:15!
Could the heavy bleeding be because of the exercise? Not sure if I should be worried Confused

Thanks for reading!

First few periods after baby have always been awful for me, sorry.

You can ask the GP for something to slow the flow down if it gets unmananageable.

I'm currently experiencing the hell of my second ppp. Going through a super plus tampon in 2 hours and have been for 2 days. Hoping it'll slow down soon! I was soooo annoyed that I had lochia for 4 weeks then a period 1 week after that. And I'm ebf, I was led to believe that I would have ages period free but no such luck grrrr!

Thanks all! I decided to take the DCs out this morning.. Not a great idea as I had to stop twice for a change :(

Rebecca that's too bad! Period free time is one of the great things about having a baby.. Apart from the baby itself Wink

It is slightly better today. Hoping it slows down more by the end of the day.

I have to take DC2 swimming tomorrow. Any ideas how I can manage that? I have never been a tampon girl. Isnitnpossible to get into a pool while wearing tampons?

I found that my periods had changed after children so that I have two days or so of heavy flow and then it tails off very quickly. Before DC it was much more gradual at the start and only 1 heavyish day.

You can go swimming with tampons. I'd change tampons immediately prior to getting in the pool and you should be absolutely fine.

My first 3 or 4 periods after having DS were absolutely horrendous. Soaking a nighttime pad in an hour etc. And long - 6/7 days. It improved!

Mine are only just starting to get back to normal 7/8 months after restarting pp. Theyve been lasting twice as long as they used to and at least 2 days a month have been like something out of Carrie. I've been doubling up with tampons & pads and sticking to dark clothing, it's been really quite disconcerting. They are becoming more civilised now though!

Thanks for your responses!
They calmed down after 2 days and now seem to be getting over.

Can I ask how regular were your periods once they started? If I go back to my 28 days cycle, the next one is going to be right at the beginning of my 4 day Centre Parcs holiday SadSad And here I was hoping to get loads of swimming done while on holiday!
