adult tooth growing behind milk tooth

My 5 yo son complained his tooth was hurting a bit so I had a look only to find out his adult tooth is growing behind it! Confused It is one of the bottom front teeth and I think I can also see the white line of the one next to it, wanting to come out too. The milk tooth is not wobbly at all.

I will of course call the dentist on Monday, but was wondering if anyone had any experience?

It's quite normal and the adult tooth will move into position once the baby tooth comes out

This happened to DD and baby tooth was there for months when big tooth was behind it. Eventually (literally, 7 months later) the baby tooth fell out.

It's common, if the milk tooth is really stubborn the dentist might take it out, but I think you can wait a few weeks and see if it loosens up.

It's called shark tooth or something like that when this happens.

It's really common - the baby tooth will fall out eventually and the adult tooth will move into the right position.

Shark teeth - has happened to 4 of my daughters teeth. Dentist said just to leave them, we did and they all fell out.

My DD had to have her milk tooth removed and the adult tooth repositioned under GA because the milk tooth didn't fall out and so the adult tooth grew wonky. She was about 12/13.

I had this, had nothing done as was told it would rectify itself, milk tooth came out at age 26 finally, now have a bridge to fill the gap as the adult tooth hasn't moved forward.

DS had a whole row of double teeth in his lower yaw - he became interested in sharks for a short time. Resolved without problems and his adult teeth are normal.

Many thanks everyone. Hopefully it will resolve on its own
Will see what the dentist says tomorrow

My daughter had had this happen three times (she's 11) and the dentist advised to just leave them. Her mouth was overcrowded at one point, but the baby teeth soon fell out and it's rectified itself and her adult teeth (so far) are all fine and the dentist is not concerned at all. Doesn't look great, but nothing to worry about. See what your dentist suggests.

JigglyTuff · 04/06/2017 11:41

You really don't need to go to the dentist.

Lushmetender · 04/06/2017 14:01

Hi yes dentist won't do anything unless really causing pain. My daughters bottom and upper shark teeth are though too though one tooth is becoming really loose now. My son was the same and as I say went to dentist but they wouldn't do anything.
