Would you say something to keep baby safe?

Whilst out and about in the recent hot weather I saw 3 tiny babies in bassinets / prams with a blanket over the top. I so desperately wanted to say something but didn't know how to do so without sounding patronising. www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/uk-heat-sun-pram-stroller-parents-blanket-over-baby-pram-in-hot-weather-put-their-children-at-risk-a7145311.html WWYD?

My LO gets burnt badly in the sun and is allergic to sun cream, how else am I meant to keep him from burning?

ItchyFoot · 03/06/2017 18:32

Clothes that cover them, a hat and a parasol/sun shade.

Kitty399 I have two little ones that also can't wear suncream. I have UV clothing for them and large hats and once the sun is properly out I keep them in a UV tent on the beach or in the shade if we're out at that time. You can buy special breathable pram covers that don't cause the inside of the pram to heat up but tbh we never owned one, Ibjust found a large tree to pop the baby and the pram under in the heat. It really apparently heightens the risk of cot death if the little one is sleeping somewhere that air is not circulating. It is how to communicate this in a nice and not condescending manner that is an issue for me. I wish hospitals and perhaps the NCT could include it as a warning in their leaflets on sleep safety guidelines.

When my Summer Baby was a newborn we generally planned outings around not being out in the sun in the heat of the day as prams themselves can also get really hot due to the lack of air circulation in them. Life sometimes happens and when we were out at that time I thankfully knew from an NCT post on Facebook to not cover the pram.

Busy bee, thanks for the advice. I wasn't aware they made breatheable covers for on prams, I've just been using a realllllly thin blanket and I'll be looking for the covers you mentioned. I always thought he was ok like that considering the blanket is very thin and he usually ends up sticking his feet out the pram anyway, he typically has a big air hole from that but it's at the sizes.

I would say something but you could go with "I don't want to worry you but my friends baby had problems because of using a blanket like this because ....but I guess that has made me a bit paranoid"
Makes it less accusatory and gives a reason leaving the ball in their court.

An actual blanket or a large muslin? I've only ever seen people use a large muslin or a thin gauzy scarf. That's what I used when my newborn would only sleep in a moving pushchair. Then once asleep I parked it in the house or shade.
I honestly can't believe someone would put s blanket over. Shock
