Baby choked...is she ok?

I was told to try gripe water for my 5 week old as she is very hard to settle after feeds. Tonight was my first time giving it to her and I gave her it from a spoon (which is what the instructions say to do). Anyway she started crying and ended up choking on it. Since then I have done nothing but panic as it took her a while to start swallowing again properly. Her breathing is fine, and she has had a bottle since but I'm still convinced something is wrong. Usually she is really hard to settle and moany around this time but she is now sleeping soundly.
Could it be the gripe water has worked which is why she's settled or has the choking done damage?
Like I said previously, her breathing is fine and she's taking a bottle/dummy (although it did take a while for her to take the bottle)

Please please call 111 rather than asking here....

We can't see her, we're (often) not HCPs and it would be irresponsible of anyone to give you an answer either way

Mine was a bit shocked with gripe water first time - it's different texture and taste and coughed quite a lot. She goes to sleep much quicker too as no belly ache. Magic stuff!!

Was she choking (silent and only able to breathe in) or gagging? If choking, call 111 for advice

It was about 2-3 hours ago now and she seems ok. Breathing is normal, has taken 2 bottles (she only has an ounce at a time, this is normal for her) and seems like herself. My concern was that she fell asleep pretty much straight away. She has just had a bottle and again, settled really quickly but seems normal in herself. Do you think I should still call 111?

Choking is the obstruction of the wind pipe usually with something solid and she would have been silent and unable to breathe, is that what you mean? It would be quite difficult to choke on a tsp of liquid though she may have inhaled some and coughed a bit. I think if she's fallen asleep it's either worked and made her more comfortable or it's a coincidence. You wouldn't fall asleep normally if you were choking!

Ok thanks mimiholls. That does put my mind at ease a little. I've put some on her dummy instead now. I just felt so awful and guilty seeing her so worked up. I seem to worry about every little thing with her. I can't remember being this bad with my first.

I used to give mine gripe water from the calpol syringe or even the infacol one x
