A family member has asked for advice to how to talk to his wife about giving toys to their son to distract him from any negative feelings. Examples are he falls and hurts himself he gets a toy to cheer him up, his grandparents are leaving he crys he gets a toy, he is told off he has the telling off then a toy. She keeps a stash if toys for this reason. She once gave my son a pack of toys that cost around £25 because he was sad to leave their house.
The person is worried about the cost he says its getting toward £150 a month on toys they are well off but still and he worries the effect it will have on their son (he's almost 6) having every bad feeling covered up with stuff.
I actually have no idea how he can speak to her as she thinks it's no big deal so I am hoping MN can point me toward anything that might help?
