Where to put safety gates in rabbit warren house?

Sadly no diagram . We live in a Victorian terrace. Enter into narrow hallway, stairs up. Gate at bottom, easy enough.

11 stairs up to mini landing. Bathroom ahead up another step. Turn 180 degrees, 4 more steps up to DS bedroom and our room.

Where should I put gates for maximum safety and minimum faff / losing the will to live due endless gates?

In front of child's bedroom. Not at bottom of stairs ever!!!

We live in an old converted 3 storey school house. 2x2 sets of stair cases. .
A gate at the bottom of each stairs.
Gate on upstairs living room. Gate on ds bedroom. All cable tied shut as he can open them!!

How old is your child? If still quite young I'd just gate the room he is going to play in - e.g. Living room, no need to gate the whole house if you'll be with him whenever he's moving through other areas

No please not at the bottom of the stairs! At the top of the stairs yes but not bottom. One of my brothers children was permantly disfigured after falling down the stairs into the babygate.

You can train a 15 month old to be safe on stairs. On all fours going up, hold onto spindles coming down or slide on bottom. That's the easiest with complicated stairs.

runrabbit that's interesting, thanks. I find it quite hard to tell what they are capable of learning and when! Books only help so much...

We have a complicated house lay out with lots of partial stairs, including open sided ones.

So far we've only put 1 stair gate up which is in dd bedroom door. She can do stairs quite well but is always supervised when she's near stairs.

She's 21 months and the stair gate has only just gone up as she's just moved into a bed and can now open doors.

We have a similar set up but our little stairs are from the kitchen to the bathroom. We have a stair gate at the top (obv) and the bottom of the big flight of stairs. The bottom gate is for when we are downstairs, I don't want her crawling up the stairs and then falling down. She mastered the little stairs (3 or 4) in no time. It I tend to be in the kitchen if we're downstairs so I watched her on them at first.
She's 18 months.

I worked in a house a bit like this, 65 steps from the basement kitchen to the children's attic bedrooms with lots of landings. We didn't have any stair gates, just "trained" them to negotiate stairs safely right from them learning to crawl.

Agree with pp train how to do stairs I had a climber and was much safer to show him how to do things safely than to constantly keep him away I also told him never do do stairs without me but at least I knew if he did he would be as safe as possible.
