Is this okay? Have been recommended to by loads of people because he keeps getting constipated. Have tried warm water, bicycling movements, feeding, tummy rubs, baby massage etc but nothing.
He's EBF. It's been 7 days and he's really uncomfortable

Yes but you can safely wean at 4 months if medically required and it's quite common to be advised to use orange or prune juice by midwives and doctors. If the baby was younger than 4 months I could understand the concern, but realistically the baby could be weaned in 1-4 weeks anyway.

@Believeitornot definitely. It also happens when he goes anywhere and needs to use expressed milk. I think the disruption upsets him a bit and he doesn't poop for days. He's been with MIL the most overnight recently because my parents are in Vegas lol. But he was still bunged up a day after spending the day with them.
My mil is quite paranoid about making sure I'm happy with what they do because she doesn't want him taken away from her. I'm really chilled but can be really blunt and I think she just doesn't know how to handle me yet lol.

A little bit of pear might do the trick and be a bit gentler on his tummy

Have you tried giving cooled boiled water? That helped us a treat. My EBF baby went about once a week but I'd give water if I thought he needed help moving it along. Always worked a treat x

Believeitornot · 21/05/2017 09:08

Maybe he doesn't drink as much milk when it is expressed so is just bunged up for lack of fluids?

mimiholls · 21/05/2017 13:10

Herewegogo but it's not medically required. If it were op should get advice of gp or hv- they will not suggest prunes or prune puree.

Just an update for you all. We tried cooks boiled water, more massage, warm bath, kicky leg movements and a bit of prune purée and finally we have had the biggest explosion to date. It ruined the baby grow and vest, both legs covered, thickly, in poop and straight up the back. Couldn't see his junk in the nappy because of the thick layer of poop. Was honkin. My morning is ruined. He ended up in the sink it was so guffin.

Just to reiterate pp comments that it's extremely unusual for ebf babies to become constipated. If the consistency is soft when they do finally go don't worry about frequency. My ebf baby pooed on average once every 10 days from 3 mths until starting on solids at 6mths.

dementedpixie · 22/05/2017 08:21

If he's never had solids before then I would rethink giving prune puree first. He would probably have pooped on his own without it. Hope your day improves Flowers

OP is breastfeeding her baby so no need for juice. I wouldn't give a baby juice every day either though
