Changing my DS's formula, he had blood in his stool today, straight to hospital and it's CMPA, at the rate he eats il need 2 400g tins a week.

Any suggestions on where to buy it??

Sounds positive! It can take a while for them to get the cows milk out of their system but I definitely noticed a massive difference after 3 days.
So rubbish we have to fight to get the formula we need for our babies. If only they knew what living with a CMPA baby was like

I'm not sure if I need to call the doc to discuss this formula??

He had his first feed on it at 3pm Tuesday just gone.

He now cries whilst feeding, falls asleep & then wakes crying.

He's also not drinking much at all, maybe 2oz every few hours. He's 7 weeks

I tried to go cold turkey but he's not having it.

So I've made 3oz 2 with old formula & 1 with Nutramigen, il wean him off the old one

Where are you OP? I have some unused Nutramigen tins in the South West. I know how hard it can be to get a big enough prescription.

HLBug · 18/05/2017 21:11

There is a supply issue with Nutramigen at the moment OP so stockpile whatever you can find. My poor DH went on a wild goose chase round our city today trying to find the last remaining tins. We have 2.no to keep us going 😢

lifesjoys · 19/05/2017 05:51

Andersarms, I'm in the south west too.

In Bristol.

He's not eating Sad he's had 3oz in 10 hours. Usually he'd have had at least 12oz minimum. He's drinking, just not enough. He's been doing so well! Hasn't lost any weight since he was born, Sad I bet he's going to lose weight :(

I've even been demand feeding but even then he's only taking half an oz. I started a 400g tin on Tuesday. It's practically gone. How?? Because he cries, I feed, he doesn't want it, it's then wasted after an hour of trying.

What do I do??

To save wastage, I've reduced bottles to 2oz each. He's still not drinking it though, falls asleep. I tried the same size teat as before, he screams as it causes too much wind.

Poor you.

Not sure what to say about the milk.

But have you tried the Dr Browns bottles for the wind? And infacol of course. Just in case it's the crying and gulping which is causing some of the wind.

There are different types of X Nutramigen for different scales of CPMA, so if that doesn't help I guess it's another trip to the doctors.

Good luck. So hard when they are distressed.

ImpYCelyn · 19/05/2017 12:11

Are you still getting wet nappies? You'll need to monitor it carefully, and get to A and E if he stops producing wet nappies and isn't feeding.

AndersArms · 19/05/2017 20:02

OP I am about 90 mins away from you, but will be half way towards you next Friday evening if that's any good to you.

Hope your LO has had more today. 💐

lifesjoys · 19/05/2017 20:53

He's on Dr Browns bottles, I changed a little while ago as all other brands didn't work for him.

I rang the doc & they've prescribed Aptamil, however, as I don't want to keep changing, I've persevered with the Nutramigen & he seems to be taking it.....14 feeds he's had since 1am Blush however, it seems a lot but he's only had 20oz, he needs to take another 5oz minimum by 1am. Hopefully he'll manage it.

Anders, that would be perfect, what area will you be going to next Friday??

I was prescribed Nutramigin but we had lots of green poppy nappies so I gave up after 2 days and am back to breastfeeding for now. I have 3 unopened tins in cupboard but am in London. I was told to add vanilla essence to make it more palatable.

Does anyone know if the poopy nappies settle down after a while, or does it mean my LO needs the fully broken down formula? Sorry to hijack thread but do really need to wean LO before I go back to work, and not seeing dietician for another 4 weeks. Is it just going to be trial and error with different formulas?

lifesjoys · 20/05/2017 03:40

Sauv, I was told by the company themselves that the green poo is absolutely normal on Nutramigen, since my DS has been on it that's all he's had. However, it has calmed down a lot, he used to go every bottle, now its once/twice a day at most maybe even less.

How long did you try your DC on it for? Mine have only been on it since Tuesday.

MygirlKeith · 20/05/2017 04:12

Sauv green poo is totally normal on nutramigen, it mentions it on their website as well, it stinks too!

AndersArms · 20/05/2017 08:06

Have PM'd you OP

MrSlant · 20/05/2017 08:14

Green nappies completely normal on Nutramigen, I used to have to warn anyone who was looking after DS. We were on it for two years as main milk. Took my DS 3 months to get back to his birth weight though, he was poorly little thing. Really freaking me out now as he's still skinny as a twig but suddenly taller than me, where did my screaming baby go! Grin.

Does anyone know how I find out what email address I used to sign up to here?

For the life of me can't remember, so I can sign in to read messages! Sad
