Would you allow your baby to sleep outdoors?

When my brothers were babies, I remember my mother feeding them in the afternoon, putting the in the pram, wrapping them up then leaving them outdoors to sleep for an hour or two. She did this every day with all of us as babies, whether there was rain or snow (though I wouldn't imagine she did if there was gale force winds!) but the pram was always sheltered. This was encouraged as it's supposed to strengthen the baby's immune system. I must admit I never took an antibiotic until I was 11 years old, so I believe there's some truth in that theory.
The reason I ask is that recently in Dublin a woman in Dublin was reported to the police for leaving a baby she was minding sleeping in it's carrycot on a balcony. This lady, who was minding her grandchild, was from Scandinavia and this is apparently a normal practice over there (and the temperatures are much lower there!!).
At the moment the weather is mild here and I'm letting DD2 sleep outdoors in the afternoon, though she never sleeps more than half an hour during the day! I live in the country, and don't think I'd do it if I was living in a town.

Greetings from a viking. I am from Denmark (expat in the UK) and I think you may actually be reported to the Danish autorities if you DON'T let you child sleep outside over there .

Dd has most of her naps outside and I do think that the fresh air is beneficial for their health.

I did - when DS was tiny, it was the only way i could get him to have a nap! We'd take him for a push round the village and he'd be lulled to sleep in the fresh air, then i quite often left him asleep in the garden if the weather was ok. For what its worth, he's never had antibiotics or anything.

DS2 was born 3 months early & when discharged from SCBU the consultant advised (amongst other things)as much fresh air as possible, he said "wrap him up & put him in the garden to sleep, as long as it is not too damp".
he said it would improve his lungs far quicker than being kept indoors.

Wow I have never even thought to let a baby sleep outside (and I'm onto baby no. 2!). I know that fresh air is good for us all, but I had it never occurred to me to let them sleep outside!

Makes perfect sense, thanks for the enlightenment!

(Not sure though I would leave a baby outside the shops round where I live though!)

In scandanavia they do leave them outside in the day to sleep unless the temp is below -5c they believ it stregthens the immune system.

I have left DD and DS out the garden ocasionally if they happened to fall asleep while walking.
My nan says she always put us n the garden to sleep.
