What have you seen others do for their children's 18th ?

Hi my daughter is soon to be 18 and I want to do something memorable . We are going to see lion king in London on the day but I wanted to gather ideas from you all as it's v special to us ( various reasons )

Lion King sounds like a fabulous way of celebrating it! When I turned 18 my parents took me on the train down to London to watch the Lord of the Rings symphony at the Royal Albert Hall. It's one of my best memories.

I do 18 presents, all wrapped beautifully with a numbered label. They can cost very little (favourite snacks) to a few hundred (no. 18 is jewellery).

You have to be led by them a bit. My dd had a big party in a hall with a dj , but my ds was having none of it and didn't want to do anything at all.

Will depend on your set up, but family (as in wider, extended family) meal out or get together in form of buffet at your house or BBQ or whatever they prefer?
Would they like you to treat them and couple of close friends to a real 'posh' dinner out somewhere?
Most of dd's friends (all 18 this current school year) have chosen to go for a meal with their friends (all the girls pay their own way). ds's friends however, didn't seem to do much - the odd one let their parents host a 'gathering' in their houses.

I agree with backforgood, you have to be led by them. My DS was adamant he didn't want a party of any big fuss at all. He had a family meal at home on the day but I did order a special cake. 18 presents to open on the day as a previous poster mentioned, then the day after he went airsofting/paint balling with a group of friends. Didn't feel particularly "special" to me, but it was what he wanted.
