Annoyed with Huggies nappies and their dodgy gelly stuff

I use real nappies in the day and Huggies overnight because my DD does the most enormous amount of wee overnight she'd probably drown if I used the cotton ones!

Anyway, I bought two packets and every morning she has clear gel on her bum because they are leaking and I emailed them and they said that it was fine, not a problem, not a danger.

Yeah...but my daughter looks like she's got snails in her pants

Oh and they don't contain her explosive BF poos either.

They have offered to send me a voucher off my 'next' purchase. ARRRRGGGHHH

I have a Fat/tall baby - normal nappies don't fit. Seriously, I tried every single one they sell in Sainsburys and Huggies at least stay on (did I mention that she thinks that taking her nappy off and rolling round is the BEST thing ever?)

Oh God don't make me go to Tesco. It's such a scary place.

have also found that and find it nauseating. got exact same response when i emailed!

it happens to pampers to.

PhoenixGirl · 14/03/2007 20:39

I also use cloth in the day and disps at night.

I hate Huggies and find Pampers Baby Dry much better. Ds always has gel crystals all over him after using Huggies but never with pampers BD. He normally wears one fro 6.30pm - 8am with no leaks.

Wallace · 14/03/2007 20:40

Cloth overnight is the only way to go, honestly. I find disposable nappies always leak overnight whereas a nappy (I mostly use a fluffle overnight because if the fleece lining) double boosted, and a motherease airflow wrap never leaks. And my ds is a very heavy wetter because he feeds literally (yes literally literally ) all night.

TheBlonde · 14/03/2007 20:41

Pampers Baby Dry are much more absorbent and now have stretchy sides so you might find the fit is better

ChipButty · 14/03/2007 20:50

I like Huggies!

LilyLoo · 14/03/2007 20:51

Chipbutty where you hiding?

ChipButty · 14/03/2007 20:53

Under a pile of Huggies! (Unused)

LilyLoo · 14/03/2007 20:54

Room for a little one ?( been buying them for five years now no probs)>>>whispers>>>

ChipButty · 14/03/2007 21:01

They should send us some freebies for sticking up for them! I too have been using them for 5 years (or rather my offspring have!) Off to read for a bit now. Bye!! x

SAHMof1 · 14/03/2007 21:06

Tinkerbellhadpiles (he he over the name), have you tried your real nappies at night? What about a hemp booster, rather than cotton, for overnight? No chemical goo! (I really worry about chemicals sticking directly to delicate baby skin for long periods on time overnight no matter what the (bias) manufactures say!)

Flamesparrow · 14/03/2007 21:30

Tinker - be brave and do the cloth - DD always had the gel which is what made me switch in the first place.

A well boostered nappy will look bulky, but it will work and you will know what is against your baby's skin.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 14/03/2007 21:35

SAHMof1 - I did but not recently. I guess I could try. Anything has got to be better than the goo.

We originally switched to cottons because she got nappy rash with disposables and it really helped - three days she was fine (and loads of sudocrem overnight when she has the disposables on.)

I do like my littlelamb nappies though, they look really sweet, although she does have an arse like jLo in them. They have liners and boosters for night time so they might work, esp. now I've bought the bigger size and they cover more of her.

NB the username - did you never notice how she never sat down???

Ooh tinkerbelletc! Tell me more about the Little LAmbs! I have a friend due in April and she wants to buy these. aAre they good? I have the free one, but would like to know what theya re like to use the whole time

SAHMof1 · 14/03/2007 21:42

I would def. say try cloth at night, and try the booster that comes with them. But if that is not enough just boost with cut up old towels or terries. But if you find that your heavy wetting baby just needs too much boosting, try a hemp booster. They are expensive, but well worth it.

And Wallace I have a Little Lambs size 2, if you want. Used once. Also have two Clwt Twt size 2 nappies if you want. I prefer my MEOS.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 14/03/2007 21:47

Hi Wallace

Little lambs - well they ARE cheap! But they are actually pretty good. I found that for the first six weeks I was too tired to do real nappies (stop tutting back there, I'm doing it now . But when we did start they worked really well.

The size 2 ones are better as the liner is sewn in at one end. I don't like the wraps that much, the nappies are so sweet and pretty and the wraps just remind me of chavvy tracksuits (white, shiny, feel funny).

The paper liners I don't bother with. The buckets they come with are great (buy a bucket for each floor if you can, there's nothing worse than spilling poo on your foot while you carry the offending item downstairs...oh well there is, poo on your foot at 2am!)

The delivery is superquick, next day both times for me. They wash nicely. Line dry in a couple of hours. But they don't do well on radiators. The wraps also I wash separately to the nappies (partly because they don't get dirty and so don't need a hot wash) but mainly because they stick to the nappies even if you securely fasten them.

The softer of the liners make EXCELLENT breastpads!

Oh bugger DD just woke up.

When I have to use a disp at night I put a muslin underneath - stops nasty chemicals from being in contact with ds's fragile bum and reduces leaks (ds is VERY long and thin so no disposable fits him well)

Wallace · 15/03/2007 22:03

Thanks tink, that's good to hear. I'll let my friend know.

Thanks SAHM, I really want to say yes (I love nappies!) but I must say no cos I don't really need anymore nappies .
