Has anyone tried not using wraps during the day?

Some real nappy websites I've looked at seem to suggest that its OK to not use wraps over cloth nappies during the day, to allow the skin to breathe better. Has anyone actually tried this with a crawling baby? I suppose it might be OK if you were at home and just dressed the baby in a nappy and T-shirt and kept checking regularly for dampness? My DS is 8 months now, and I use a mixture of Tots Bots and Motherease nappies, but he has started to get nappy rash so I'm wondering if leaving off the wraps would help?

i've tried it but it does rather mean that having baby sat on your lap isn't the best plan which for a clingy non crawler just doesn't work!

and dd is in prefolds so no wrap means no nappy

No but I have used a wool nappy cover during the day. They are quite waterproof but also breathable and seem to work ok provided you don't have your baby sitting for too long (then they leak due to compression wicking). I can even put trousers over ours (they are Couche covers) and there is no dampness. HTH

If the problem is nappy rash would recommend fleece or silk liners to keep his bottom dry - an airflow wrap or wool wrap might suit him too. Maybe a bit of barrier cream like vaseline or some metanium would help too.

Sorry to crash, but where can I buy silk liners? My DS has started to get nappy rash too (6m, wears onelife) and I would try anything.

I prefer to use wool rather than nothing. I use woollywraps (couche are much slimmer though) because DS tends to be in baggy skater jeans anyway

Flamesparrow · 14/03/2007 16:48

arse here even

NineUnlikelyTales · 14/03/2007 16:55

I can't find them

Flamesparrow · 14/03/2007 17:02

lol - message at the top of the link, they are being added as we speak

mummyhill · 14/03/2007 17:06

I have tried it at home with DS in a top and his nappy but found it impractical as he is a very heavy wetter.

Flamesparrow · 14/03/2007 17:10

Done... now to feed my babies

I do occasionally leave DS wrapless (mainly when he legs it before I get it on), but its not through choice.

yomellamoHelly · 14/03/2007 17:27

Surely their clothes'd end up damp if you did this. I just allow some nappy-off time each day.

mummyhill · 14/03/2007 19:05

Yes which is why ds was wearing just a top and his nappy when I tried it and we stayed at home.

MandMand · 15/03/2007 18:36

I think I'll give it a try with my two new Fluffles which arrived yesterday. I've not used a stuffable nappy before, so hopefully if I pad it well it shouldn't get too soggy.

I ended up doing it for a while today with my new baby bufters - I don't think he is well though because it wasn't very wet at all even after 5 hours

I put fleece tracksuit bottoms on him after a couple of hours going with the theory they might work like a loose fleece wrap (dunno if that theory is skewed though - started a thread, but it is all empty )

SAHMof1 · 15/03/2007 22:13

How did the fleece tracksuit bottoms work?

SAHMof1 · 15/03/2007 22:13

I mean did they work like a fleece wrap?

Flamesparrow · 15/03/2007 22:28

I couldn't tell because the poor mite wee-d so little it didn't even soak to the outside of the nappy

PinkTulips · 16/03/2007 15:06

flame... i've done that with fleece pj bottoms and they worked very well

hope flameboy is feeling better

Flamesparrow · 16/03/2007 16:32

He's much better thank you
