What time do your after school playdates finish?

Not done one before but my almost 5 year old really wants a friend round after school. I'm fine with it but not sure what time the friend should stay until.

My 5 yr old until about 5.30/6. My 8 and 10 yr olds, it's more like 6.30/6.45.
Depends if you eat early/late, what time bedtime is and what you're comfortable with.

TheBitterBoy · 07/05/2017 19:42

Depends if they are having their tea with us. 5 pm if not, 5.30 to 6 ish if I'm feeding them.

I think the first time they had anyone over, I just invited the Mum too for a Brew after school.

8pm. (DD is 6 and play dates generally happen after after school club finishes at 5:30pm).

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 07/05/2017 19:51

Oh Jesus Titty, how the hell do you cope with that?

TittyGolightly · 07/05/2017 20:01

What's to cope with?

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 07/05/2017 20:12

Mine would have been horrendously tired at that time. DD is almost 10 and was in bed before 8pm tonight.

Skitskatskoodledoot · 07/05/2017 20:14

Wow, 8 pm for a 6-year-old would be tough for me. My 7-year-old is in bed at 8. Our school ends at 3:30 and playdates usually include tea and end between 6 and 6:30. We don't do playdates on the days they have clubs after school.

TittyGolightly · 07/05/2017 20:15

Can count on the fingers of one hand the times mine has been asleep before 8pm in her whole life. She's an owl. (She's eating her supper now.)

Even her lark best friend can cope with an 8:30pm bedtime.

TittyGolightly · 07/05/2017 20:17

I'm not usually home before 6:30pm. Play dates happen on days DH is working away and I have to finish in time to collect from after school club at 5:30pm. We're home around 5:45pm, they play for an hour while I prep and cook dinner. They eat around 7pm and then a bit more playing before I take the friend home for 8pm.

Flowerwords · 07/05/2017 20:20

Gone by 6pm here. I put my children to bed early Including 9 year old are all in bed with a book by 7.30pm.

Firenight · 07/05/2017 20:21

I've found at age 7 that a 4.30-5 finish is sufficient. Then home for tea at their own house.

It's enough time for a game without getting tired and fractious and saves the hassle of fussy eaters.

Never been an issue. Confused

Ridingthegravytrain · 07/05/2017 20:43

5.30

Firenight · 07/05/2017 22:06

Titty - well that's nice for you. My experience is different.

The OP was presumably after a range of responses!

badhotfanny · 07/05/2017 22:39

Pickup 3:15, home by 3:40, tea at 5, pickup at 6. Usually tv after tea while waiting to be picked up.

TenThousandSpoons · 07/05/2017 22:49

6pm here too

ofudginghell · 08/05/2017 07:19

I only do them on the days I do school pick up.
Will have them from school let them play for a bit feed them and normally drop back or parents pick up between 6 and 6.30pm.
I have two others who are older so stagger meal times on play dates so the older ones can get some peace to do coursework etc

Anditstartsagain · 08/05/2017 10:21

I usually say pick up anytime before 6 so the parents have my limit but still can decide what time is best for their children. One little boy stays until 6 because his mum works until then and other leaves at 4.45 because his mum does nightshift and likes to have tea with him it's so variable.
