Next to me cribs

Are they worth it? DS1 we had a wicker Moses basket last time that was outgrown very quickly, it's quite an old family basket that has been passed down the generations and is quite small.

DS1 was an awful sleeper so I was thinking about getting a next to me crib (and keeping the basket downstairs for naps).

Are they any good? Is one kind better? I know there was a recall due to a death so would ensure we got a new one. What about the company that keeps popping up on my Facebook that hires them?

Next to me types are good - you can just slide baby across/in and out for feeds in the night etc rather than having to lift up/put down. Or just co sleep but be aware that baby might have ideas about doing it for wayyy longer than you do..

I bought a snuzpod then when he grew out of it (at 5 months ish) moved onto a Troll bedside cot. The troll cot also works as a standalone so he stayed in it even once he moved into his own room. I can't recommend the bedside set up enough though if I had my time again I'd probably not bother with the little crib and go straight for the full cot as it's much easier to 'lean in' and settle them before retreating! You could always use a sleepyhead or similar if it felt a bit big for them at first

We have one, and currently using it with the side up for our 4 week old little girl. I would check the height of the next to me against the height of your bed. We had ours for months before we discovered this, and would have thought twice before purchasing it had we known.

I had one for DS, it was great, very easy to deal with him in the night. Plus they resell easily.

Hmmalittlefishy · 07/05/2017 18:16

I have loved ours and wish I had had one with dc2. It has lasted till about 7mths.Although the baby is small.
I feel I've definitely had more sleep
We now gave the tricky job of moving the dc off the boob and into their own cot which may prove difficult
Resale demand is good around here too

We hired one and it was great (til he had a 4 month regression and just wanted to sleep next to me but that's another story). Would definitely recommend.

Using chicco next to me since birth, LO now 3 months old. We went second hand and it's been perfect so far. Handy that it doubles as a travel cot and folds flat. We took it to a hotel and it worked really well, LO very well settled.

Next to me is safe if fitted correctly (height adjusted correctly and pulled in tight against parents bed so no protruding edge).

The only downside is DS has become a noisy sleeper, some more distance might help me sleep these days!

I have the chicco lullago - it's great, I didn't want a next to me as I sleep with duvet right up and was worried about covering ds. Lullago packs into a bag for travelling which is good for grandparent visits. It is also big enough to fit the sleepyhead deluxe which was a life saver when he wanted to feel held. He has just turned 6 months and is about to move to his own room - still fits the lullago at the moment

The only thing that put me off is that you can't use a sensor pad movement monitor with them.

lifeisazebracrossing · 11/05/2017 11:07

Measure your bed's height and see if a standard cot with side removed will be a similar height. It's what I did.

JassyRadlett · 11/05/2017 11:13

Loved ours - we had a Moses basket for DS1 and a Next2Me for DS2 and the latter was so much better and easier. He is off the charts tall but was in it for nearly 6 months.

I think only one brand had a recall?

Erinys · 11/05/2017 11:20

Loved ours. I had an emcs for ds and it made feeding at night so easy for me. He slept in it for the first 7 months (although he was still quite small at that point) before moving to a big cot in his room.

We also had a moses basket that dh, dsil 1 and dsil 2 and their various offspring used but had that downstairs for naps.

Just ordered a bednest to rent having looked on the products bit in here. Looks like a great option www.bednest.com
