Ok, advice on smelly urine smell on cotton nappies?

Is this the hidden downside that nobody tells you about or is it just some babies?!!!

I've read on here to add a little white vinegar to the fabric conditioner drawer in the washer. It neutralises the urine or something. I've done it and it seems to work.

Also tea tee oil is good added to the bucket.

hopefully someone will be along to tell u better than me

The vinegar works well, along with only about 1/4 scoop of powder in the wash and extra rinses.

Teething makes them smell much worse too, but no way to stop that!!

I put 60ml of white malt vinegar into the fabric conditioning drawer along with a few drops of tea tree oil. Works great!

Yep - vinegar and extra rinses

Either add vinegar or throw them on a boil wash with tea tree oil

LadyOfTheFlowers · 13/03/2007 22:39

i put some vinegar in the conditioner section on every wash.
it keeps them soft and fresh. we have very hard water.

No boil washes for mine - depends what you are using but some of them can't do that high a temp.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 14/03/2007 11:19

i admit i have boiled some terry squares, because they arecheap - lol, but nothing with aplix/velcro/poppers/elastic/shaped etc, except possibly an old snugglenap that looked and performed, like an old dishcloth! lol

Thanks everyone... vinegar seems to be the way to go. When I wash the nappies normally (we use ecover) it's fine, but just every day she smells horrid, it's like the smell sticks to her skin.

I will try the vinegar and doing a hot wash with no soap powder too.

Anyone know where you can buy large quantities of vinegar? Like a 2-liter bottle?

Thanks again for all your tips!

oHelen
