When do I apply for childcare costs from the government when I'm due to go back to work x

You didn't reply to my question on your previous thread about whether you already receive universal credit?

If you don't and think you're eligible, you need to apply for that. If you already receive it, you'd need to speak to them about adding the childcare payment.

You cannot receive childcare payments unless you are eligible and receiving the standard universal credit payment. It is an additional payment.

Oh I'm sorry didn't realise, I don't but have just put all my current details in and it says I would get around £477 a month and with my wages that get from going back to work will be able to afford it, but just don't know when to apply as to get the child care

You will get better responses and need to repeat yourself less if you stick to your original thread. Iirc you can only claim it when you start using it. Be careful as they initially use last year's income for tax credit calculations.

Well probably best to start by applying for universal credit standard payment first and then add the childcare payment in a few months when you're returning to work.

Vics100pink · 07/05/2017 12:12

Only entitled to childcare elements not other elements, so would not know when I need to apply

From the gov.uk website:

Your Universal Credit payment is made up of a basic ‘standard allowance’ and any extra amounts that apply to you.

You may get more money on top of your standard allowance if you’re eligible. (Childcare is one category)

You may be able to claim back up to 85% of your childcare costs if you’re eligible for Universal Creditt_.

If you're not eligible for universal credit, you're not eligible for the payment for childcare costs. It's both or none at all.

Ring the DWP to discuss it with them. Look into tax credits and tax free childcare.

That's great. Apply for the universal credit then!

Vics100pink · 07/05/2017 12:56

But it's only for the child care that using all the figures from when I will be going back to work, so I need to work out how I can claim when I go back as I think take 6 weeks, but there no way of applying and saying when I will be going back to work, is this OK, being entitled just to childcare elements as someone said its all or nothing

OP posts:
Vics100pink · 07/05/2017 13:40

Can you only get one benefit from them I don't see why not

OP posts:
teaandbiscuitsforme · 07/05/2017 16:40

I'm sorry, I don't understand your position. If you are a low income family and entitled to universal credit, why do you not want to claim it? From my understanding, you won't get the childcare payment without getting the standard universal credit payment as well.

Vics100pink · 07/05/2017 18:32

Ah OK but I put it in the calculation as above, as if I was returning to work and not receiving smp and that's what I got back the above post

With all the calculations

Put all your details in for today's circumstances.

LIZS · 07/05/2017 18:50

You are taking your partner's income into account?

Vics100pink · 07/05/2017 19:15

Yes today we don't qualify, but once I go back it seems we do qualify as we have childcare to pay for

GreenGoblin0 · 07/05/2017 19:29

how much do you earn? the figure you've come back with seems quite high considering you both work full time
