Reuseable nappy boosters...

I've bought some nature babies stuffable lights and a second hand happy heiny in preparation for the new baby, ands thought I'd be really clever and make my own boosters to save a few quid. However, I probably should have got one booster to use as a template! Been on ebay to look for one but cant find one anywhere! Where should I go to get hold of one?! Also, would I be able to use the same booster design on both nappies, they look pretty similar in shape! Thanks!

I wouls say either A4 size and fold down to stuff it or about the size of a big choc bar if just for boosting. What are you planning to make them out of?

redclover79 · 14/03/2007 20:07

I'm planning on making them out of bamboo towelling... and cotton towelling maybe too!? With the a4 size, do you kind of fold it in 3 or ram it in?!

NB I get mine from littlelamb.co.uk and they are superb. I got my nappy kits there too and the liners and boosters are included.

I would fold it into 3 like you would a prefold. You can buy bamboo material wholesale - and old towels can be cut up if just want terry. Make sure you can't buy terry squares cheaper than the fabric before you go into production!

Thanks tinkerbell, will look at the link at soem point tonight!
Octopussy, I have been collecting unused towels from the back of the airing cupboard and have bought some bamboo towelling to have a go with! Also got a couple of terries which I'm gonna try out tonight. Just a little worried as I was reading on here somewhere that boosters have to go right to the edges or you might get leakage!

You could buy hemp fabric from this online retailer.
I have sewn with hemp fleece and hemp terry - the major benefit is that they don't fray so you can cut a piece out and just start using it - no hemming required.
When I was using pocket nappies during the day, I always liked to fold a piece of hemp to fit, so it was perfect, instead of using bought boosters which only fitted certain pockets and not others. Plus when it is a one-layer square it dries really fast.
I tended to use hemp with a microfibre booster to 'grab' the wee, as hemp is slower to absorb, but 'locks' it in.
You can buy microfibre fabric from the weenotions shop here
Hope that helps.

Good Luck with the baby! It shouldn't take long to make a few boosters, something to do while you wait.

I use face flannels for boosting - just fold into 3 - posher ones are better than the really cheap ones as more absorbent, but ASDA did them for about 30p each.

Try micro fibre cloth from wilcos, its cheap, super absorbant and dries really quickly. Perfect for boosters. We use terries squares too, which are larger for night times.
