My 5 yr old son still wears pull ups to bed because he isn't dry through the night. Sometimes he wets so much I have to change his sheet, pyjamas and put new pull up on in middle of the night. I've tried not letting him drink anything after 6pm (sometimes hard if he's thirsty), and waking him when I go to bed to try for a wee (he's always like a zombie and never actually does a wee) he says he just doesn't feel it so it doesn't wake him up. I know children do things at diff ages etc but I'm just a bit concerned that he isn't showing any signs of being dry through night yet. Any advice? Or is anyone else in same situation? Thank u.

My son had just turned 7 when he was dry at night, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Children vary widely in when they're dry at night and boys especially take longer. Just keep going with pull ups, and yes limit drinks in the early evening and aak him do a few wees before bed.

I have 3 children over the age of your DS. They all potty trained in the daytime at a relatively normal aged 2-3. But none of them were dry at night at aged 5.

They are all big drinkers (and still are at Aged 12, 11 and 7), so produced a lot of wee. That said, they didn't usually flood an overnight nappy.

Is he using the toliet in the daytime? Make sure he has a sit-down wee before bed - it empties the bladder better than a stand up wee.

Don't restrict his drinks, but I would certainly not allow any drinks after teeth brushing until morning. No over night drinks should be needed if he is well hydrated during the day.

Apart from that, try other brands of pull ups over night if flooding continues. Try pampers size 6+ if you're not already using them. Take care with the sizing - go to big and the thigh holes are not tight enough and leak. Go too small and they are less absorbent.

Finally, try putting the pull up on backwards. The most absirbancy is over the bum cheeks. Fine for girls, their wee goes downwards. But boys often wee upwards and if he's lying on his front at the time; the wee is spouting over the top of the nappy without even touching the absorbancy panels.

Thanks a lot fate that's a big help. He does go for a wee during the day but he has to be told (although not all the time) he usually leaves it til last minute then goes and if we are out I always make him try even if he protests and sometimes he goes and says to me oh I did need one!
I will definitely try the sitting down wee before bed and will put the pull ups on backwards, thanks for the ideas! (I do use pampers size 6 and also sains/tescos size 6 and find no difference between them)
Thanks again. Smile
