Sterilising bottles if still using bottles after one?

Dd has just turned one - she is drinking cow's milk. We are still using bottles ( will swap to cups soon). We want to get rid of the steriliser but are still using it as not sure teats would be clean enough. Am i just being silly?!

I'd probably keep sterilizing until you swap to cups. More as an encouragement to swap to a cup sooner rather than later.

No you're not being silly, I'd still sterilise until you swap to cups too.

Dishwasher should be good enough now.

Unless you're making up,feeds in advance and there is time for bugs to grow they don't need sterilising.

Mildpanic · 02/05/2017 19:39

As long as you wash properly don't really need to sterilise however if you are more comfortable with sterilising then carry on. Obviously if there have been health issues then the advice is different.
Need to get rid of bottles other than bedtime if you can. Better for the teeth to have a cup or beaker.

I don't sterilise his bottles and haven't since he was 1. No need.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 02/05/2017 19:40

You really don't need to sterilise bottles unless you're storing milk in them. Just make sure you clean them really well. You could always just pop the teats in some Milton if you wanted to be sure though

Me624 · 02/05/2017 19:57

I stopped sterilising at 1 and just pop them through the dishwasher now.

There's a lot of conflicting advice out there which is confusing, but I sterilise any bottles etc which are used for formula milk because of the bacteria which you can get in formula and which can collect in the teat or bits of the bottle even with thorough washing. I wouldn't sterilise anything that's used for cows milk.

Thanks all - which cups are best to use?

No.need for steriliser. I bet your dd is crawling/ locking floors/ licing walls/ etc.

babyinarms · 02/05/2017 21:04

Locking/ licing=licking lolGrin

I stopped sterilising when my twins started crawling, they literally put everything in their mouths and all the bottles go through the dishwasher anyway.
