When did you start potty training your LO?

My LO is 19 months now, still has heavy nappies even during his nap and he still is not communicating when he is about to do a wee or poo so I don't think he is quite ready to give up nappies just yet.

Just curious to find out when you all started?

What method worked well for you? Ie crash course or gradually over a long period

Tried at 2.5 and it just didn't work. So waited until 3.2 and had slightly more success. Persevered for a couple of weeks and she did day and night dry all in one because she was that bit older.

Still has the odd accident. Nearly always at nursery because we're hyper vigilant at home but she's done really well, considering. Glad we didn't push it too soon and make an issue out of it. Good luck Flowers

Tried at 2.5 but she was nervous as she used to suffer terrible with constipation.

It wasn't until 3.5 she reliably was potty trained.

DD2?is only 15 months.

DC1 was 2.2/2.3 ish. Reliable in the day within a week, still in night nappies until nearly 3.

DC2 was dry day and night within a week of 2nd birthday.

Wait untill they are truly ready. My ds did it himself in one day with no accidents, he was a few weeks away from turning 3. No fuss, no stress, no tears and no accidents. Dealing with puddles and wet clothes for a year just to be persistent is quite frankly ridiculous as a previous poster did. Wasted an entire year when the lo obviously wasn't ready, if a child is ready it does not take a year.

Dd was 2 years and 4 months and cracked it in a couple of days. We just took away nappies and made a big fuss of her pretty princess big girl pants. She got a choc button and a frozen sticker every time she used the potty or loo. She was dry through the night too. She could talk and was definitely ready. Ds is 2 years and 8 months and absolutely no way ready at all. He can't communicate yet and has no idea when he is filling his nappy. I suspect it will be at least a year until we attempt it!

Yes that's true... I really don't want o make it an upsetting experience for him because obviously that will cause anger for everybody which will not help LO.

Everything to date has been a positive experience his feeding is great! So glad he is a good eater from
Not pressurising or forcing him I just let him play with food and eat at his own pace and it worked wonders he has a great relationship with his food.

I want him to have a positive experience with potty training too:

I remember when he was 6 months old my mother in law asked if I knew when he did a poo I said yes he does it in the morning and she said to me you should put him on the potty. I said no he is too young and if you start too young it could lead to water infection and constipation. Her response was 'okay'. I don't think she liked that one bit after she has raised four children and looked after three of her niece and nephews and now helping to raise three of her grandsons...lol

2.9yo. We left it until she was so ready she pretty much took her own nappy off to do it. She was dry in 48 hrs, day and night. Leave it as late as you can!!

My DS was 3 years old when he started going to the toilet without accidents. DD is 22 months old and is going to the potty through the day happily. I think it just depends on the child, maybe, IDK🙈
