Mother-Ease onesize or Tots bots Bamboozles?

I am currently pregnant with my first child and we know we want to use reusable nappies. We went to the baby show yesterday and the ones we really liked were the Mother-ease onesize especially as they are about to release a bamboo version but since coming back and reading peoples opinions Tots bots bamboozles seem to be better.

What is your opinion? I would like to use them right from newborn up to potty training and full time. I do have a tumble dryer.

I have both & prefer the motherease as they dry faster and have been amazingly hard wearing. They are in really good nick after 2 years and I'm going to re-use them for the next baby. The babmboozles are nice & slim and very absorbant and I do have a soft spot for totsbots because they are scottish but on balance would plump for MEOS.

HTH

Neither - a wambamboo/bambineo if you use nippas is much much more a real birth to potty nappy, it has much longer tabs and a higher rise so it really gets to the end of the weight range.

Ultra slim, extra absorbant, just perfect really

tassis · 11/03/2007 21:27

why not get a few of each and see how you get on?

the issue with tots is that you'll need size one and two so probably more expensive than motherease which are (obviously!) one size

Both me and DP like the idea of poppers so thats why we liked the mother-ease and totsbots.

Liath do you think the new bamboo mother-ease will still dry faster or do you think it will be the same problem? I have read that you can use the bamboozles in Size 2 from birht with a small wrap is this incorrect then tassis?

I reckon it's the babmboo that makes them slow drying as it's so dense.

A friend of mine has used size two totsbots from birth, though I think they were fluffles rather than bamboozles. The problem with babmoozles is that nippas don't grip them well and you'd struggle to get size 2's to fit a newborn if they were poppered/aplixed I'd have thought.

Def worth getting a few of each, though as some baby's shapes fit certain nappies better.

liath · 11/03/2007 21:44

Sorry about the spelling, what the heck is babmoo anyway. need to go to bed...

LadyOfTheFlowers · 11/03/2007 21:45

we went to the show today and i was dissapointed at the cloth turnout! lol

i found meos fine for 0-9 months but i have a v.heavy wetter. ds2 might be better in them beyond 9months though.

i bought some bamboozles today and some sandys as they get good reviews.

Flamesparrow · 11/03/2007 21:45

The size 2s can be folded down to fit from approx 10lb, so would be ok as long as you use something else for the first couple of months (depending on the size of your baby) - kissaluv size 0s are gooooooooooorgeous.

Whereas the meos fit from approx 8lbs.

The bamboo meos will have the same drying issues - it is because bamboo is that much more absorbant, there is that much more fluid in the fibres to dry out iyswim.

Flamesparrow · 11/03/2007 21:46

I agree with getting a few of each

LadyOfTheFlowers · 11/03/2007 21:47

problem with using size 2 from birth of anything imo is you can never get the leg holes small enough to keep newborn runny poop contained well, even with some of the nappies that have an overlap tab design.

Nicki10 · 11/03/2007 21:52

Does it work out expensive to buy a few of each sort though and then rebuy a big pack?

I have just seen the swaddlebees on your site and they look lovely as well any opinions?

Where can I get kissaluv? I'm hoping for a small baby i'm only 4ft10!

OP posts:
liath · 11/03/2007 21:54

Probably less expensive than buying a load of one sort then finding they don't suit, TBH. Anyway, it's so much more FUN to have a selection to choose from, or maybe that makes me a deranged nappy addict !

Flamesparrow · 11/03/2007 21:56

kissaluvs are on here

The nippa wbb is the only thing I have found adjustable enough for a newborn

Nicki10 · 11/03/2007 22:01

Kissaluvs look absolutely gorgeous and so cute!

I think your right I would quite like hte excuse to buy a few of each!. Do you know can you put the tots bots wraps on the mother-ease if I chose these in the end as the designs are nicer?

Would you guys not recommend buying the special offers then at the baby show? I'm going to the NEC one too! I'm obsessed with all things baby

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 11/03/2007 22:03

The swaddlebees all in ones or the organic velours (really need to list the velours actually - they are gorgeous)?

The all in ones aren't great for a full time option as they often don't cope with heavier wetters.

I'm working on a starter kit at the moment (and now wondering about putting the organic velours in too...), there should be details here tomorrow/in a few hours. It might help you have a few to try out and work out which you like iyswim.

Flamesparrow · 11/03/2007 22:04

If it is a bulk pack at baby shows, then probably best not to - until you know what shape bum your baby has, its really good to try out a few styles to find what suits them (and you) best

makesachange · 11/03/2007 22:48

I'm all for going for a few different ones!

In my first time cloth users pack from birth I usually recommend something like a mix of Fluffles size 1, MEOS, Bambineos size 1 and size 2 and maybe a Swaddlebees organic cotton velour because they're gorgeous. That way you get a good mix of nappies which will fit a newborn well but will take you through quite a while, and a range of absorbancy and containment, and fast drying.

I then suggest a ME airflow, Rikki and Tots wrap to get a mix of fits and styles.

Then buy more when your baby arrives and you know what you like!

If you like poppers, I don't think it's been mentioned that we're just bringing out a new poppered Bambineo in a few weeks.

Hi Nikki, just to throw in another opinion - I don't like birth to potty nappies at all. They are all bulky on a small baby, and even as they get a bit bigger they still look pretty big. It depends how big your baby is and whether you like cute little clothes - I did.
At the other end of the fit, they are often not sufficiently absorbent for an older baby (post 18months) and many toddlers outgrow them - particularly Mother-ease onesize.
Bamboozles, are a lower-rise nappy, and would be pretty bulky on a newborn. Bamboo is absorbent (60% more than cotton according to Tots Bots) which also means it does take a while to dry, however, I don't know how it would work as a birth to potty, because you would normally need a nappi nippa version for that.
There seem to have been quite a few reports about older Bamboozles going hard, or just disintegrating. I don't think this is the case with the newer ones though.
This is just my opinion, but I would say get small nappies first. They will fit better and look neater, then go up to a size large or size 2 at around 6 months.
Bimbles are a small nappy available with poppers and diddy diapers are very popular for newborns with velcro/aplix then sell them on. Yu will most likely recoup at least half of the price you paid and you can use the proceeds towards your size 2 nappies.
They are easy to sell on, there are quite a few second hand forums on the internet - try UKparent.co.uk or parentslounge.co.uk or the nappy lady classifieds if you fancy a look.
Just out of interest have you considered using a nappi nippa type nappy - they are usually a bit cheaper and you can achieve a really good fit with a nappi nippa.
If you want to be confused a bit more then you could have a look at my cloth nappy review blog - it's not a non-profit site, just for fun and lots of Mumsnetters have left reviews for the cloth nappies they have tried (thank you ). There are some pictures of a few nappies on my little boy, and a friend's little girl so you can get an idea of sizing.

Flamesparrow · 12/03/2007 17:16

I agree with you there Maisie - if you can afford that extra money then 2 sizes is much better

Sat here holding a bambineo size 1 - its goooooorgeous! But I think even that would be bulky on a new newborn.

Nicki10 · 13/03/2007 18:38

Flamesparrow do you have the new swaddlebees organic cotton velour shaped nappies in the new newborn size?

What do you prefer the swaddlebeeds which look gorgeous or the kissaluvs?. I like both as they have the turn down part for the umbilical cord.

I am thinking of getting a few sorts now to try on a teddy!!!

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 13/03/2007 19:42

I have only played with the kissaluvs on a newborn, but the swaddlebees do look really gorgeous too - the swaddlebees stay softer (I think). I'll be adding the sized ones in about 10 mins (gonna go make a cuppa first!)

Playing with teddies is always fun - but maeveta learnt yesterday... toy bunny bums are not the same shape as baby's
