Secondhand baby clothes

Why don't people want secondhand baby clothes? DD is 16mo and has always been dressed mostly in clothes passed on from others or bought on EBay. I buy her new shoes and she has an occasional new outfit as a present (a lot when she was younger). But everything else secondhand.

But I'm struggling to pass it on to anyone once she's in the next size. People turn their noses up at secondhand. I don't want to sell on eBay/Facebook as a lot of it I got free plus it's a lot of effort for hardly anything. I have passed on to baby bank, jumble sale, charity etc but no one else seems to want it!

Any tips for finding a new home for secondhand clothing and any insights into why people don't want it?!

I can afford to buy everything new but I dress my children in 90% probably second hand. I'm on a local Facebook group for children's clothes. Everything I've bought has been really cheap e.g. 15 items for £5 and all nice brands like Joules, Jojo etc eye in excellent condition. My children hate shopping and it's easier to pop round the corner to collect a bag of clothes than drag them round the shops. I look for things one or two sizes up so they always have clothes to grow into and no panic buying at silly prices in the shops. The money I save pays for annual passes for a theme park. People always comment how well dressed my children are. Any hand me downs that are a bit tatty are worn for nursery or messy play

I have told my SIL I don't need any second hand clothes for our DS. He's our only child and I like to choose clothes fir him whilst he'll still wear them! SIL has 3 boys and the youngest ones clothes are trashed and have holes in the trousers so I would never put DS in them. Also she likes Brown's and muted course whereas I like bright colours.

I go into a couple of Children's Centres who have 'help yourself' piles, or do little sales really cheaply - it would certainly be worth asking in there.

I suppose I get annoyed when I ask people at toddler groups with younger children if they'd like any handmedowns and get the look of horror from them!

I would happily accept hand me downs from friends/ relatives, people I know etc. But I would rather dress my child in new primark/ supermarket clothes than second hand from a stranger. A client of my husband (he’s a PT) recently gave him a load of clothes for our LO, and I really don’t want them. There are buttons missing/ threads hanging, in her opinion these are “good condition” -(everyone has a different opinion of “barely worn” “practically new”)

I love secondhand baby clothes. Have bought some stuff from eBay second hand too.

However a friend has given me bags of stuff that I wouldn't use. As PP has said, buttons missing, threads hanging. Don't know why anyone would give that to someone else.
Another friend gives me bags of clothes that have been worn by two children and they are immaculate. They are not overly expensive clothes either. Mostly Asda! Just washed and dried carefully I think.

I love being given second hand stuff - I get much nicer brands than I would pay for. Who wants to pay £20+ for a top that DS will outgrow in a few months!

We have a local Facebook group that passes on baby clothes and equipment for free as all our kids grow up. I've been given so much - clothes, cot, travel cot, toys, rocker, toddler kitchen, etc, etc... I wouldn't have such a varied amount of stuff if we hadn't been given so much. As DS grows out of stuff, we pass it on again. You could start your own local Facebook's group too - believe me if stuff is being handed our for free, word will spread and your group will go from a few mums to hundreds. 😁
