coz those are the only 2 brands i can buy in town and i need them for monday.

so which is less likely to leave use swimming in a rapidly expanding poo slick while ds giggles madly?

PinkTulips (nice name BTW!) I started a thread further down re swim nappies, may be worth finding - sorry I'm baking for party this evening and don't have time now to look for you

I think both these were mentioned.

IME it comes down to the age of your baby, what you can get away with. BF babies need a Happy Nappy Swim Nappy (the ones we sell but obviously can't get to you by Monday) to keep it all in, whereas older children aren't so prone to frequent watery explosions. Nets just clearly aren't up to the job in that case.

If you want to take the risk with a net, choose one that comes off like a nappy rather than pants. This is a disadvantage of the happy nappy as if an accident happens you can't unpopper or untie it, so it's a big messier. BUT it's messy in the privacy of your own changing room, not in the pool!

HTH

OK I've done more research.

The Boots one says it "may" help to prevent an accident - not a great confidence giver! That said, it's adjustable which is a good thing to get a really neat fit which is essential. It's also easily removable which as I mentioned before is really helpful when required.

The Bambino Mio one has a waterproof lining which TBH is not going to help as you can't get a watertight seal at the legs and waist. IF the nappy fits perfectly at the waist and legs it will work ok provided there's no explosion.

IF it's at all possible (not sure how) for you to try them for fit, I don't think there's loads to choose between them so go for the one which fits best to give maximum resistance.

Sorry not to be much help, I've tried neither and just know the principles!

thanks makesachange... i think i'll just pick up whichever is cheapest so and invest in a decent one for ds in a couple of weeks.

dd is almost potty trained so not too paniced about her but ds is bf so am a bit paniced about the liquid poo..... eek!

Pink, yes this seems like the best option, or it occured to me (on the way to my MIL to have Sunday Lunch ) that you could buy one of the sposie ones that they usually have at the entrance to many pools for about a pound, and apparently, according to MissGoLightly, you can rise them through to get rid of chlorine (as long as they're not soiled!!) and dry them near a radiator (not on it for fire risk purposes with it being plastic) and re-use them several times.

Obviously I'm not one to usually suggest a dispikable but in this case, as it's possibly an option for you?

PinkTulips · 11/03/2007 17:48

well the shop that sold the bambino one doesn't anymore as they've been taken over by debenhams and on closer examination the boots ones look completely useless and cost almost as much as a happy nappy so i've bought disposables for tomorrow and will be getting a happy nappy for ds if they enjoy the swimming (which i'm sure they will) dd is almost potty trained so i can just use up the disposables on her til she's reliable.

thank god they're the same size and i could just buy the one pack for both of them!

Pink - good choice. I didn't like the Boots description TBH and I think it's more eco friendly to throw away a few sposies than to throw away a pool full of water...

PinkTulips · 11/03/2007 17:58

my thoughts exactly.... not to mention the sheer mortification of it all! and guaranteed ds would do one of his massive bf poos to test it out!

Oh those BF poos

I remember them well

MrsWaggsnapps · 11/03/2007 21:24

I've used similar to Boots (Kushies) and they've worked well, as have Mothercare, Floaties (awful name, but appropriate I guess) and Motherease. All have had accidents in and all held up fine.

Also you can wash and reuse the disposable ones at least once, tho they do take abit of drying

makesachange · 11/03/2007 22:57

MWS - at the risk of WAAAAYYYY TMI, can I ask - er - what "kind" of accident you mean?

I know you mean THAT kind, obviously, but - erm - (oh just say it) - firm or runny??

MrsWaggsnapps · 12/03/2007 19:29

That's okay Emma - well the Floaties had small baby emmissions (fortunately DS tends not to do much when he gets in water), but the ME one had a proper toddlers poo and I didn't even realise til I got it off (side poppers are definitely a blessing in those situations).

I had a Mothercare one as well which had towelling inside that was good at holding onto baby poo (and made me realise that cloth nappies couldn't be all that hard).

MAC... what size happy nappy would you suggest for a big bottomed 7 month old who's grown out of MEOS already?

i would have guessed the XL (12-24 month) but one site i went to said that it was to fit 40-50 lbs and he's no where near that! last thing i want is a swim nappy thats too loose!
