Used wam-bamboos

Hi
Would like to try out wambamboos for DD - already have Tots Bots Bamboozle size 2's but like the idea of the booster being separate from the nappy.
Does anyone have a used size 2 that I could try out before I buy the trial pack? Can't see any used ones on Ebay at the moment.
Thanks

I wouldn't think you'll get them second hand yet. I have some and love them, but I'm not getting rid of them any time soon

Flame will sell you a single new one to try (and you can have a tie dyed one if you want) though

Flamesparrow · 10/03/2007 09:07

I could probably part with one of mine for you to try - velcro or nippa?

(Not that I have far too many nappies or anything!)

Seoulmum · 10/03/2007 09:23

Hi
Thanks Flamesparrow, it would be great to try one before forking out cash for more - just want to see how they compare to the bamboozles I have. (Only problem is I'm not living in the UK so my mum has to forward on all my special request items ).
Flamesparrow how much do you sell wambamboo size 2's for new as that might be a better idea unless I can buy one second hand.

Seoul - WBB/Bambineos should be sold at £8.25 for nippa and £8.55 for velcro by everyone, with allowances for specific offers such as our mumsnet 10% off. Popper ones which will be out in 2-3 weeks will be just under £9.

However Flame ALSO has the groovy tie die ones which she adds a bit to to cover the cost of doing them which is also allowed, IYSWIM.

Also, multipacks (eg our 5% off 6 pack or 10% off 12 pack) is offered by a few people. Obviously our 10% is added to that, too, making it very good value

I've just been looking through loads of the nappy threads as a friend of mine with a small baby has decided to use cloth, asked me for advice and I'm a bit out of touch with the new ones as DS hasn't been nappies for a bit.

I have to say that I think there is a fair bit of selling going on generally by the nappy retailers over the threads I have read, which really should be kept to threads in the classifed section eg. this thread is advertising a 10% Mumsnet discount.

Just my opinion but one I felt I had to make, so apologies if I have offended anyone, but this is annoying me a little.

octopussyintummy · 10/03/2007 22:00

I actually find it helpful to know when getting free advice how much nappies cost - without having to look elsewhere for the price.

ChocolateTeapot · 11/03/2007 08:07

Well I see what you mean Octopussyintummy but I think there is rather a fine line between free advice and selling. On this thread in my opinion it has definitely been over stepped. I am aware that Flamesparrow and Makesachange are both retailers. Flamesparrow here has kindly offered a second hand Wambamboo so isn't acting in her capacity as a seller so much. Makesachange's contribution not only states the price ie answers the question that was asked (not to her), but has managed to put in the fact that 1) she offers a 10% discount to MNetters and 2) that she offers mutltipacks with further discount. Her advice here is purely in the capacity of promoting her site with her discounts in my opinion.

Now I do think it is good that retailers are happy to come here and offer advice, very helpful to get it from someone with experience. But there is a classified board for which people pay £30 for advertising. I have found Flamesparrow's advert on there so clearly she has paid but am going to have to have someone direct me to Makesachange's as I seem to have missed it. Her site is easily identifiable from her Mumsnet talk name and in this thread she has managed to get awareness of the fact that her site exists and that she has a discount for MNetters and if that isn't advertising I don't know what is ! I do hope that I have just missed her classified advert and that MNHQ have received their £30. It's not the only thread that I think there is some rather questionable posting on but in future I will just report posts that I think are inappropriate

Dragonhart · 11/03/2007 10:58

Love my wbbs Seoulmum! They are definatly worth a try.

i have to say that, as a nappy novice I have had some really good advice from flame and makesachange, esp Flame (thanks!)

I would say makesachange that perhaps it is worth waiting til people ask for prices rather than giving them automatically after advice. However in this instance, prices were asked for so I would say that it was 'advice'.

Flamesparrow · 11/03/2007 11:36

I have felt myself lately that I seem to be doing more selling on here than actual nappy chat (and I miss the chat!!!)

If there is a sales type question in future (other than "do you sell x), I will take the conv to email or to the ad thread

I hope that makes nappies the fluffy playing place it was before!

makesachange · 11/03/2007 11:44

Chocolate - apologies if I caused offense - I was responding to a query made on this thread.

With regards to advertising, we are currently in discussions with MN about this as although the "small business ad" may be appropriate we are debating purchasing additional advertising which is being confirmed next week.

Naturally you should report posts which you think are inappropriate. However I am sure that you will do so having read enough threads and posts to get a good overview of different postings. For instance, if offering second hand nappies is important to you, you may note that his happens between a number of posters, including myself. Clearly that is not the issue, however, and you have a genuine concern that I am simply posting on Mumsnet for some "free advertising".

It is a fact of life that there is no such thing as a free lunch - or free advertising. The time I take on this board attempting to advise people takes an awful lot more of my time than I receive in return through actual sales. The reason that I and my colleagues started our company is because we are passionate about what we do - and want to encourage people to understand more about RN, and issues associated with our other products. While we need to make sales to continue this is not our raison d'etre - in fact MAC simply runs as an additional to our full time jobs.

I therefore attempt to provide advice that is as impartial as possible - and clearly I have a bias towards my own products, simply because I have chosen them BECAUSE I think they're the best. This may come out in my advice. However I clearly do not advice products which I think are not appropriate and I will suggest alternative brands if I think they are more appropriate to the situation. My purpose here is not to advertise, but to promote RN.

So why, therefore, do I tell people who I am as this may be percieved as advertising? I very clearly put the message across about who I am, for whom I work and what products we retail. Readers are therefore able to make a clear and informed decision about my advice. It would be unethical in the extreme for me to NOT use my company name and to "pretend" to be a non-retailer, and still give advice.

I hope that this clarifies my reason for being an active poster on Mumsnet and would be more than happy to answer any other questions at all.

Emma

Dragon - certainly I agree

makesachange · 11/03/2007 11:45

Flame - that's an excellent idea. I will join you on that one and for a start purchase a MN SBA next week

Hi Flamesparrow
Could you give me your email address and I'll contact you regarding a price for what I need. (might as well buy a wambamboo new). Or tell me your web address - don't come on this forum part often so don't know it.
Out of interest how would you compare Wambamboos to Bamboozles?

bumfluffnappies @ gmail dot com

Sorry - I sent you a CAT about the used wbbs, but they take a while to come through!

WBBs/Bambineos vs Bamboozles - Slimmer, with much longer waist tabs so they fit for much much longer... a true birth to potty nappy. My DD had grown out of size 2 tots well before potty training.

Seoulmum · 11/03/2007 12:12

I haven't use CAT before - wouldn't know where to start...
I'll still buy a wambamboo. Will visit site in a moment.
Have my doubts that DD will last 'til potty training in bamboozles - she's not exactly a "chunky monkey" either!

Likewise apologies if I have offended you Makesachange. I do hear completely what you are saying and am glad to hear that you are currently in negotiations with MN re advertising. I haven't read this section of MN for well over a year now and I don't recall you being on the nappy threads when I was reading them whilst they were applicable to me. It's just that reading through the threads it did hit me that there was a fair amount of what I would term selling to be going on and I was unable to find an advert from you in the classified section as I could for Flamesparrow.

I have to say though, I can't help feeling if I was Flamesparrow who picked up this thread from the beginning and had offered to sort out a second hand nappy as the OP had requested that I would actually be somewhat annoyed to then find you on here quoting prices and your MN discount that you offer, therefore undercutting her.

As I said, hope I haven't caused offence, it's just something that struck me whilst dipping out of this section for the first time in a long time. I wish you every success with your business and will be directing my friend )and her utterly delicious DD who I get to squidge in 6 days time and counting !), to have a look at both yours and Flamesparrow's sites

PinkTulips · 11/03/2007 16:57

CT.... it wasn't undercutting as flame offers those deals too... everyone here is well aware of who MAC and flame are and most of us have had far more advice from them than they've had sales from us i can assure you!

makesachange · 11/03/2007 17:23

Pink - thanks

Chocolate - no offense taken I assure you - and I would much rather that you posted your concerns than thought badly of me

Just a further clarification as you haven't been around for a while. I posted the RRP for the WBB/BNEOS as we are one of the UK wholesalers for the product. That includes the multi packs. I think I made it clear than these were standard prices including Flame's. I also pointed out that Flame has the USP of the tie die nappies which are brilliant.

Further, Flame and I talk plenty off board and she'd be the first to tell me if she thought I was treading on her toes (which I make all efforts to avoid and usually remind everyone of her options too).

Anyway welcome back to the board and again please do not hesitate to let me know if you are unhappy with any of my posts
