Chocolate - apologies if I caused offense - I was responding to a query made on this thread.
With regards to advertising, we are currently in discussions with MN about this as although the "small business ad" may be appropriate we are debating purchasing additional advertising which is being confirmed next week.
Naturally you should report posts which you think are inappropriate. However I am sure that you will do so having read enough threads and posts to get a good overview of different postings. For instance, if offering second hand nappies is important to you, you may note that his happens between a number of posters, including myself. Clearly that is not the issue, however, and you have a genuine concern that I am simply posting on Mumsnet for some "free advertising".
It is a fact of life that there is no such thing as a free lunch - or free advertising. The time I take on this board attempting to advise people takes an awful lot more of my time than I receive in return through actual sales. The reason that I and my colleagues started our company is because we are passionate about what we do - and want to encourage people to understand more about RN, and issues associated with our other products. While we need to make sales to continue this is not our raison d'etre - in fact MAC simply runs as an additional to our full time jobs.
I therefore attempt to provide advice that is as impartial as possible - and clearly I have a bias towards my own products, simply because I have chosen them BECAUSE I think they're the best. This may come out in my advice. However I clearly do not advice products which I think are not appropriate and I will suggest alternative brands if I think they are more appropriate to the situation. My purpose here is not to advertise, but to promote RN.
So why, therefore, do I tell people who I am as this may be percieved as advertising? I very clearly put the message across about who I am, for whom I work and what products we retail. Readers are therefore able to make a clear and informed decision about my advice. It would be unethical in the extreme for me to NOT use my company name and to "pretend" to be a non-retailer, and still give advice.
I hope that this clarifies my reason for being an active poster on Mumsnet and would be more than happy to answer any other questions at all.
