How do your babies nap when visiting friends or relatives

Hi.

We are going to visit my in laws tomorrow justfor the day. My 4 month baby is used to napping in his cot in a dark room with white noise. Obviously we won't have the cot at their house and I'm worried about him not sleeping! I tried the travel cot before but he doesn't seem to like it as it's much lower down than his normal cot! What do you do? He will also nap in sling and pram but we are having lunch so was hoping to put him down!

Travel cot, but I assist him to sleep when I normally don't have to (rocking/feeding) so he's asleep when he goes in it. I take his white noise owl, or use my phone with portable speakers. Or sling. With ds1 I used a travel blackout blind as well, but haven't needed to with ds2.

At that age, mine napped in car seat. Fell asleep in car then brought inside and she stayed asleep for 1 or 2 hours. If walking, same with buggy.

Honestly? falls asleep in the car or when in her pram.

Other than that still in my arms. I can get her down in her day cot on occasion.

She is brilliant at night but not amazing at day naps as she loves cuddles. When she gets to six months I'll put her down for naps upstairs in her cot.

Trouble is mine never sleeps for hours! He does catnaps. Usually awake for 90 mins then sleep for 90 mins and I have to put him to sleep by rocking in a dark room with white noise. Maybe I'll just hold him whilst he's asleep, it's only for 30 mins I guess!

Mine is a 30 min cat napper too! Drives me mental. In that case I would just let him sleep on your arm (or give him to MIL to settle and hold while you eat!)

Haha yes it's very annoying! He naps 5 times a day so I spend at least 15mins each time getting him to sleep and then he wakes before I can even finish a cup of tea! Nightmare! Looking forward to him needing less naps!

If your relative has enough room I would ask if it would be okay to rock baby to sleep in the pushchair. If not, a rock of the car seat with a foot and then they could dose in there for a short sleep. We would also do a lot of sling naps at that age :-)

I just held them while they slept or when older and having longer naps would either put down on couch on a blanket (would block with cushions if I was in and out of the room and obviously keep an eye) or would take for walk in pram and then leave them in hall asleep in pram.

It sounds like the perfect opportunity for your in laws to get some sleepy cuddles Maybe bring the pram in case nap time falls when you are all eating if he happy in there too, and as mentioned, download a white noise App on your phone.

At that age DD1 would only nap in someone's arms or her swing so someone would have had to hold her. DD2 would sleep on her blanket next to me or a bouncer so I'd have brought one of those with us in case of a mealtime clash but otherwise she would have been held.
