The title says it all really.

As we travel along I will look & ds will have wriggled his 2 arms out from under the straps of the car seat harness. It will still be locked around him, but he will have no straps on his shoulders

They go tighter, & believe me, they are tight as it is, but he can still wroggle out of them!!

Anyone had this before, or have any ideas of what I can do?? Thanks!

Gaffer tape

GameGirly · 09/03/2007 12:09

I hate to say this, but we used to have 2 sets of reins which we'd put over the seat straps, tied in as complicated a way as possible, because our little DD2 thought she was Houdini. It worked, by the way! The number of times I almost crashed as a little head appeared over my headrest next to mine and shouted "Boo" in my ear, I can't tell you ... Lordy was she cute, though!

What's a snugsit misdee???

Will look online

GG I know... yesterday dh was driving & I was in the passenger seat... first thing I knew of ds out of his straps was when hereached through under the head rest & ticked my neck! So so unsafe.

Abominablesonwmum.... don't tempt me

DS did this now DD does it, nothing you can do. As long as the waist strap is tight enough they will be fine. DS once released the seat belt button attaching the car seat to the saet, so he was strapped in his car seat but rolling about the back seat. Luckily he never did that again.

fireflyfairy2 · 09/03/2007 12:23

Yeah, but I am afraid of having to brake really hard & the waist strap not being enough to secure him

Also, what would the police say if they stopped me & ds was not secured in his seat properly?

Been looking on GLTC but don't see anything with a name snugsit.

Could you make a trip to somewhere he wants to go (friend's house, park, swimming pool etc.) but explain that if he takes his arms out on the way that you will simply come home and then stick to that promise. Not promising that it would be easy because you'd have to deal with disappointed ds back at home but it might make him realise that you mean business. (If you arrange to go to a friend's house, make sure his friend isn't told beforehand so there isn't another disappointed child if you don't show ).

fireflyfairy2 · 09/03/2007 12:47

Thanks booge!! Think I need to go to specsavers!

WW that won't work with him, he's just over 2 & won't know, he doesn't care if we go out or stay at home, he just wouldn't understand "keep your straps on or we will come home".....

My dts tore their snugsits to bits. Thankfully they are beginning to understand keep the straps on now. Bribery works with raisins or something and toys to keep their hands occupied.

fireflyfairy2 · 09/03/2007 12:50

GLTC is asking me to log in, but I don't have an account & there isn't anywhere to join it at!!

Oh just had a thought, isn't GLTC an effiliate [sp?] of here??

DS used to do this and I bought a special clipti hold the 2 shoulder sraps together but it didn't fit. I ended upusing one of my hairclip instead as it wastoo fiddly for him to open

fryalot · 09/03/2007 12:55

I tried stopping and refusing to drive off until her straps were on.

I tried telling her that if a policeman saw her, then mummy would get sent to the naughty corner.

I tried shouting at her.

I tried bribery.

I tried putting so many layers on her that she couldn't move her arms to wriggle out (this one worked best, actually but you can't have any heat in the car and have to keep the windows open in sub-zero temperatures)

Generally, nowadays, I let her just have the waist strap.

I do, however, drive very carefully

WaynettaSlob · 09/03/2007 12:58

But squonk - it's other people's driving that's the problem.
Please please please, use bribery or whatever you ahve to, but make them tay strapped in safely.

Kelly1978 · 09/03/2007 13:08

it might be worth looking on ebay, I got mine cheap from there.

cleaninglady · 09/03/2007 13:40

my 2 1/2 year old ds does this all the time and it drives me mad !!! I am scared stiff in case someone hits us and hes only got the waist bit round him dont get the kiddicare thing that clips together if you come across it as its so not worth it - my ds can undo it easily! best thing that works for me now is a hair clip (barrette style) it keeps the 2 straps together and he cant undo it
have to remember to take it in car with us though !

fireflyfairy2 · 09/03/2007 15:46

Arghgghghghgh I have joined the site, but when I add the item to my shopping it says my shopping basket is empty!!!!!!

Anyone else having trouble ordering?

OP posts:
ComeOVeneer · 09/03/2007 15:48

Seriously just get a hairclip from Boots it is cheaper and does the trick.

GLTC · 09/03/2007 17:50

Sorry we have had to discontinue the Snugsit due to new legislation. (You must be able to release child seat belts one handed in one go)

Booge

How did you find this on the site as it has been set to invisible so we don?t annoy people by showing items we no longer sell?

Thanks

Will

booge · 09/03/2007 19:40

hillary · 09/03/2007 19:43

booge · 09/03/2007 20:17

fireflyfairy2 · 09/03/2007 21:07

Thanks GLTC, I wondered why it kept saying I had nothing in my basket!!

Hillary, do you know the name of the clip you bought & if I can buy it online.. he got out of his seat this evening on the way home from Tesco, I'm scared he will get killed
