Moving to Newcastle

Hi
We are looking at moving to Newcastle, we have two little girls, 5 & 6.

We currently live in a leafy suburb of Manchester on the metro line. Our house is two minutes walk from school and the local park...we really want to find somewhere to live in Newcastle that has a similar feel....any ideas?

Op don't be so silly!! Is it the fact that you are a gay couple that you think might have offended people?! That's just mad and a little offensive to us north easterners!

Tynemouth is gorgeous. Lovely villagey feel, great bars and restaurants, fab beach...it's a great place to live. The market there on Saturdays and Sundays is well worth a visit too.

Tynemouth is very expensive though. Have you seen any houses you're interested in yet?

I think low fell is lovely, I work in gosforth and think it has lovely facilities but find the traffic/parking a real hassle. We nearly moved to low fell, seemed like a real community. My best friend lives in Heaton and loves it, she is gay but not sure how relevant that is!

Apologies for muscling in on this thread, but for those of you living (or having greater knowledge) of Low Fell - could you pop me a message please - it's somewhere I'm seriously considering moving to (it looks nice!) but unlike my other options, I don't know the area at all, nor do I have any friends living there who can give me the lay of the land.

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for replying. Sorry for my delay, I started writing a reply the other day, my phone ran out of battery and lost the lot...so I'll have another go!

Apologies for being paranoid but it was a very sudden drop off of responses to none...but, thinking about it since, it did coincide with the Easter holidays so it was probably that. I didn't begin to mean to offend anyone, I'm north-east born and bred, it wasn't remotely a pre-conceived idea of ignorant north-easterners. It was a genuine concern....

I suppose I'm ultra conscious that this move has to be right, and being accepted by a new community would be paramount to it feeling 'right'. I moved around a lot as a kid and absolutely hated being moved and having to start new schools and make new friends so myself and Emily has promised that we'll try to make this our one and only move with our girls, especially given their history and even greater need for consistency and stability....hence my being a bit over cautious.

Thanks to everyone for your help and advice. At the moment the front runner for us is still Tynemouth...but, we agree, it's very expensive!!! Our budget would preferably be about £300k but we could potentially go higher. Are there any areas to avoid? We love living on tree-lined streets and to wake to the sound of bird song (we've analysed what we love about where we live now!) and would like to keep those sights and sounds around our new house if possible...being close to an easy dog walk (park, beach, grassed area) and not too far from a school is our dream...answers on a postcard please!
Good luck to the girl looking at Low Fell...we really like it there too, it's still on our list of possibles. I've always really liked Low Fell since being a young kid passing through, it's got a warmth to it! We like the Kells Lane area, great school...shops...green...not too far to walk to public transport or Saltwell Park either 👍

Cheers again everyone. Peace out!! ✌️
