My DP just accidentally banged our 8 week old DD's head on the door. She cried for about a minute and now there is a lump and its red. Do I need to see a doctor or am I been over protective. DP has had an earful from me I could quite happily smack him! Any advice? I'm a new mum so really anxious. I won't get any rest tonight as I'll be checking her every 5 minutes. TIA

I would call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 for advice.
Bet your DP feels terrible.

Yes ring NHS direct my son fell off our bed a few weeks ago and I called them and they were very helpful they will ask for symtoms etc. Im sure your dd will be fine try not to worry too much. If you are in any doubt at all they will probably tell you to go to A&E

My husband did the same, think he forgot her head was there as he carried her through a doorway! I went mental at him, he did feel awful.

She was fine though

Daisy, when DS was about the same age I popped him into the backpack, and swung it up onto my shoulders - smacking poor Ds's head into the doorframe.

He cried for a minute too, but then got distracted - massive lump though. They are pretty resilient.

(But if you are at all concerned, do take him to A&E!)

ds fell off the bed when he was about six weeks.....i feel asleep breast feeding at night, ....... i was mortified and as a new mum wrapped him up and dragged him into A & E, he did have a small (very small) cut as well. They were fab put my mind at rest totally and explained what to look for if it really were a problem. It was a total waste of their time me taking him in as it really was just a bump but they understand how neurotic 1st time mums are. My point being, your DD is probably perfectly fine (the advice loopymumsy gave was what they gave me) and nhs direct are probably all you need to talk to...... but if it is going to put your neurosis at rest and let you sleep tonight dont be embarrassed to go to A&E.......

Thanks for all your advice. Rung NHS Direct, spoken to 3 people, was finally told that from what I've told them she sounds ok, but they're advice, if I feel worried is to take her to A & E. She is responsive and following her toys with her eyes and there is just a red mark on the side of her head. If I go to A & E they'll think I'm crackers! Might end up there anyway with DP after I've smacked him!
