comfortable underwear suggestions for 5 yr old dd

my dd1 is always pulling at her knickers and is clearly uncomfortable - we've tried tescos, woolies, and asda. Has anyone got any suggestions regarding other brands?

I've wondered whether it's just part of 5 yr old fidgeting behaviur that's become a habit, although she does seem very intolerant of clothes generally

I am a mum of boys, and took a friend's daughter to the loo the other day, and what struck me is how 'sharp' the elastic is compared to boys clothes, where it is thicker, looser and covered up with cloth.

have you tried plain white boys pants? Would she go for that, do you think?

You can get character ones too.

Also, M & S are generally very very good for underwear, as are BHS. Bit dearer though.

They aren't cheap, but Petit Bateau undies are clearly much more comfy on my dd. They don't ride up and are thicker, softer cotton than ones made for the British market.
I bought her a couple of sets (you can get them in France, in some specialist shops in the UK and through La Redoute) and the difference is so glaringly obvious that I am going to have to get her some more I think.
At the other end of the price range though, the pants for little girls that Tchibo sell are similarly made. And good value (though you buy them in a set with vests).

I second the Petit bateaux ones - they are thicker and look more comfy, though dd hasn't shown preference to them. I also saw some boxer style ones for girls in Gap, which look very comfy.

Thanks for this - going to try all suggestions - how much are we talking about here, especially with the more expensive ones?

Um, about £3.00 per pair. BUT they wear them every day and they are really good quality. Dd's will be more than acceptable to pass on to a friend which I would NEVER do with most undies.
It does seem like a lot but for us cheaper knicks have been a false economy as dd won't wear them anyway.

dd had the same problem bought her some shortie pants for m&s. Their's no leg elastic. Loves them and won't wear any of her other knickers.
The only other thing is to buy knickers a bit big for her.

scatterbrain · 09/03/2007 14:00

I found going up a size helped - my dd is now perfectly happy in her Next 7-8 pants ! The 5-6's were cutting into her I think !

donnie · 09/03/2007 14:01

the jonelle pants fron john lewis are good. My dd is 5 and tall for her age but the age 4 - 5 are perfect for her. I recently got some 5 -6 ones but they are still a little big. I would recommend them.

vertbaudet do some short style ones - they are about £8 for a 3 pack - they have a little picture in the corner on the front (they have a few similar styles) they are truly wonderful worth the extra money (getting a money off code is easy too) and they do not ride up their bum - the reason why I had to get them for dd3.

They have been washed and washed and washed and are still goin strong.

CarGirl · 09/03/2007 14:05

her they are but don't know how to do a link....

Another vote for Petit Bateau and you're right, Marina, they do last and get handed down.

majorstress · 09/03/2007 14:14

my dd2 has same problem, got very cheap plain boy's (covered elastic) ones from Tesco, then found pretty girlie ones but same coverage, in H&M, inexpensive too.
