Baby cold: won't sleep

Baby has a stuffy nose and won't sleep. Has been up for five hours past his bedtime. Will he ever get to sleep or will he just stay up all night and start the day over again?

He's only slept three hours in the last 18 hours

How old? Does he have a fever? If he seems really out of sorts, try calling 101. If it's just the blocked nose, I used to put a few drops of olbas oil on a muslin and hang it near the cot, out of reach. Or you could try holding him on a steamy bathroom?

Calpol vapoplug thing? Always help my DD

Have done calpol, olbas oil, steaming him in bathroom, nose frida, sterimar nose spray for babies, sleeping upright in bouncer. He's six months old. Put him to bed at 7 and hasn't slept longer than 5 min at a time. He only took two hours of 30 minute naps today. Will he actually stay up all night? Does that happen?

I'm sure he'll get tired out eventually. Will he sleep with you/on your chest? Or could you take him out for a drive in the hope he'll drop off then you could hopefully bring him inside. I have been known to do that in the past!

I second the calpol vapour machine.

I use the calpol vapour plug in, it has an annoying blue light but it's the only thing I have known to clear his nose so he could sleep and feed! I will always make sure I have refills in the house in case of emergencies! I also puta few drops of baby il as oil in his blanket which sits underneath his cot sheet. Baby vapour rub on chest too.
It sucks whenthey are so blocked they can't sleep.

We also raised the head of the cot a little bit, which helped (although I'm not at all sure if you're supposed to).

I used a humidifier when my DC were small and had colds. It definitely helped them sleep through the night. You can get them from places like Mothercare and Argos.

I too am a big fan of the acalpol plug in.
Also humidifier with one or two drops of eucalyptus oil in is very good.

Rub some snufflebabe on the soles of their feet too this is very effective.

You can also buy wedges that are the exact size of your cot mattress to put underneath the fitted sheet. This worked well for my son who was a back sleeper but not my daughter who likes her tum 😊

A warm but ventilate room is the best for if their cold is accompanied by a cough

Boil the kettle and add some vapour rub let it melt and place in the room away from harm (i put DS under his cot as he cant get to it) the vapour rub and steam work together or use olbas oil infant on a muslin and place under bed sheet and run vapour rub on soles of feet

No lie... he slept like a log and his nose clears easier. Love my little humidifier. It's funny how the small things matter so much more!
