does everyone's dcs say horrible things to each other?

I'm just wondering what are the worst things your dcs say to each other. my dcs spend their whole time saying truly horrible things.....calling each other names 'fatty' 'pigface' 'loser', sayin they wished each other were dead, using 'gay' as an insult (and yes I've told them it isnt and shouldnt be one).
My dd upset my ds by calling him a 'fat woman' this morning. God knows what that says about how she sees herself.
I spend my whole time telling them to stop but I wonder if I should just ignore it?

Oh yes sibling rivalry, we have the "gay" thing at the moment too.

I spend a lot of time being loser, old woman and fool, he spends a lot of time in his room!!

LilyLoo · 07/03/2007 16:43

No my dds never do (sorry, not sure that that's what you want to hear, just responding to the thread title!). The worst things I have heard them say to each other is "shut up" and "right then I'm not playing with you any more".

I don't remember if they never did it or we nipped it in the bud but I suspect the latter. My instinct would be to say that you must not ignore it because they would send the signal that you at best tolerate this treatment of each other and at worst condone it (not saying you do, at all!)

In fact thinking about it further, I seem to remember having more than one serious chat about respect for each other (and lack of) and that although we all have differences of opinions and arguments with each other, name-calling with the aim of hurting feelings is not a constructive way to go about solving it. (Obviously reworded for their age/understanding level!). It's on a par with hitting imo tbh. HTH.

mummydoc -you've just described a frequent scenario in our house only its "stinky girl" that reduces DD (7) to tears.

I couldn't believe that name calling by her 2 yo brother would have such an effect.

madness · 07/03/2007 16:55

same here ds and dd

becklespeckle · 07/03/2007 16:56

"rubbish boy" (DS2 to DS1) always ends with tears and sometimes fighting

becklespeckle · 07/03/2007 16:57

and "you're a stinky loser" (DS1 sings it to DS2) has the same effect too.

bettyspaggetti - so, so ,so happy someone else has the same , beginning to think dd1 needed asertiveness training , having said that dd2 needs un - assertiveness training !

stormtrooper · 07/03/2007 17:27

miaou you're lucky if a serious chat about lack of respect did the trick. I've probably had about 300 serious chats and tried docking the old pocket money too....but it lasts about a nanosecond before the next round of abuse kicks in.

My brother and sister used to do this, they adored each other

"Pig!"
"Idiot"
"Stupid idiot"
"Idiot Pigbreath"

now they are 17 and 21, it has progressed to "Stupid F8ck*ng Assmunch"
"Cock Gobbler"
"Dickwad"
"Cumsponge"

ETC. Vile creatures, siblings.

stormtrooper · 07/03/2007 17:58

Assmunch?

mummydoc, glad I could make you feel better about it.

The other thing DS does is to tell DD that her drawings/programmes shes watching/ games shes playing etc are "rubbish" which is also guaranteed to upset her.

Marscentio · 07/03/2007 18:02

Yup!

jalopy · 07/03/2007 18:10

Mine don't either. Same thing as Miaou really.
