Ideas to get dd to sit still on the potty

DD is 2 in a couple of weeks. I've been reading a book on potty training and she seems to be showing all the signs for readiness. She asks to go on the potty sometimes but won't sit still for more than a few seconds and wants to run around with no nappy on and then makes a huge fuss when we have to put her nappy back on. We have a baby due in August and I've read that it is best to avoid starting potty training less than 2 months before a new baby is due as they can regress. Also she is due to start playschool in September where she has to be clean and dry or she can't go. I know it's not the end of the world if she misses one term but her cousin will be going at the same time and I'm sure she'll be upset when her cousin goes in and she has to go home again (mum will take both).

Anyone got any ideas to encourage her to sit still on the potty?

Looking at their favourite books usually works, for a minute or two!

How old is she?

I always used to put mine infront of the tv
But..... it worked

She's 23 months (2 at the end of March).

I'll try the book idea and maybe put a plastic mat down in the living room (to save the carpet) and see how it goes.

Thanks.

The "I want my potty" book was a huge success with my latest charge whilst training!

Sorry the Author's name has totally gone out of my head!

try a trainer seat on the loo instead, did this with my DS who wouldn't sit still on potty, he happily pee's and poo's on loo. Also saves cleaning a POTTY!

That's an idea sleepingbag. We actually got one of those at the same time as the potty. I doubt she'd be able to get off the toilet by herself.

Funnily enough I saw that book when I was shopping the other day ScottishThistle. I'll give it a go.

Thanks all.

Chocolate bribery.

Be careful of putting her on the big loo, some children are very scared (understandably) & you don't want to give her fear of the loo.
