New babies need to be cuddled. Those carried in 'carrybags' on parents seem to develop confidence.
Babies cry when they are in need. Check everything, from dirty nappies, pins which come undone, and things which they want but cannot reach. If they throw toys away constantly, tie them on short strings, long ones get tied up.
Is your baby sitting properly? Backs must hurt when they have slipped down, or are lop sided.
Children in pushchairs like to see a friendly face - make your chair face you until the child gets a lot bigger and can take in passing sights. Discuss what is passing. My first daughter could tell the names of all the cars and models. She asked our friend who had just bought a new car, was it a Consul or a Zephyr at about 18 mths old. Talk to your little tot. When you stand with your friends, include the child with a touch, a word, a smile. Don't leave them facing away from everyone and out of the conversation. Think of them as 'beings' and do for them what you would like done for you. They moan because they feel alone.
