I know it's been discussed a bit, but,

Anyone actually doing this? Properly, full time, sort of thing? Or done it?

Emma

Not always, trust me and it does all go to pieces a bit when we're travelling. I think you're doing incredibly well as I'll be thrilled if my DD was able to crawl to the potty on her own.
But I do find babies amazing don't you as until recently I didn't even know it was possible for babies to signal when they needed to pee etc.

I do wish EC was more mainstream as in many other countries as apart from the fact like you I find it satisfying DD doesn't have to sit in wet nappies I do also think there is something very wrong about the amount of disposable nappy waste filling landfill sites.
Are any of your friends interested? - none of mine are remotely but having tried EC v nappies I far prefer EC and wish it would get a bit of publicity! I would never have heard of it if hadn't come across it on the internet when researching how other cultures care for babies just for my own interest. By the way your blog is great!

My good friend in RL and on here, Tigerfeet is very supportive and has said she would consider trying Ecing, cloth nappies and slings when/if she has another baby.

I have a couple of friends in RL who are interested in hearing about ECing but would not do it themselves.

My mum and sister think I am dotty and they don't understand why I would bother but my mum offers DD potty time when she babysits and gets an occassional catch.

I think the biggest problem is the expectation of perfection first time around.

My DD is walking and so at the moment all I see/hear is 'step, step, thud...step, step, thud' As she practices walking and in falling and learning she is getting better and more steady, until she walks perfectly (a way of yet)

Yet, the thought of letting a baby/toddler have more control over their eliminations and allow them to learn via mistakes, is derided by most parents It is seen as only acceptable to allow a child to use a potty when they won't make mistakes at 3/4 years old.

Since DD has started walking we have had more accidents (different pressure on her bladder, standing instead of crawling, sitting)and she is more interested in standing than sitting in a potty.

Despite this we still catch a fair few and the few wee misses are cleaned up quickly and she never sits in it, which is my goal
