Anyone tried using Metanium cream? My DD has the dreaded NR and Sudocrem isn't working? Got any other ideas ?

Eli, any idea what's triggered the NR?

snugglebumnappies · 06/03/2007 10:32

If it's plain old nappy rash, eg not thrush etc then I found Bepanthan good

petrified · 06/03/2007 10:47

I didnt find metanium to be any good to get rid of nappy rash, just staining anything it went near yellow!

Have used bepanthen at every nappy change since DS was 3 weeks and has never had nappy rash since

best thing ever is no nappy - works a treat. My lo's get nappy rash when teething it doesn't matter if they sit in it for 20 secs or 5 min, it burns their poor little bums! Honestly just take the nappy off, it may get messy but it will clear up VERY quickly (the nappy rash)

makesachange · 06/03/2007 10:57

The reason I'm asking what's triggered it is that it may need treating differently, depending on the cause.

I'm a strong advocate for nappy off time. I had a great waterproof/cotton sheet for this! It came from Blooming Marvellous as is superb now for painting time, etc!

I do like bepanthen as a nappy cream, but put it on after nappy off time for maximum airflow.

Raw silk bourette nappy liners work a treat, even in a sposie - but need handwashing.

If the skin looks like it's got little red spots or is breaking down, or is NR keeps comeing back, just get it checked asap in case it's a thrush infection and needs some anti-fungal cream. Depending on the age of your baby and your HV's advice, feeding real live yoghurt and acidophillus can really help thrush.

Metanium was great for my dds (tiny amounts really thinly applied. If it turns things yellow you are using too much

having said that, I used it on ds, and it dried his skin really badly.

Nappy rash got no better and doctor prescribed timodene. No use either. The rash seems to be worse. Going back in the morning.

Metanium cream being used right now, works a treat, but use it sparingly.

PavlovtheCat · 11/03/2007 21:49

and bepanthen works well too!

EliSpence · 11/03/2007 21:49

Tried it before the timodene and no good

sorry, and nappy off time too!
and avoiding feeding anything with tomatoes in to an 8 month old lol.

AitchTwoOh · 11/03/2007 21:56

oh dear, now i'm worried about the little red spots...

DD is teething, and has only ever had NR when she's been cutting teeth. it always clears up perfectly after some bare bum time and bepanthen.

however, this time it looks a bit different somehow. she has little red spots as well as the NR marks. the NR is really only a few patches, but it does look more raw than i'm accustomed to seeing. i do feel awful for her... do you think it could be thrush?

EliSpence · 11/03/2007 21:58

My DD's rash is spots, about 1cm square....RED RAW. I think it maybe because of her diet. Changed her milk recently and started weaning. Think it may be the acidity in the fruit ??

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 11/03/2007 22:02

Possibly? Also, antibiotics can apparantly cause NR, if she has been on any medication?

EliSpence · 11/03/2007 22:03

No medication.

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 11/03/2007 22:06

no medication here, Pavlovscat.

EliSpence · 11/03/2007 22:08

aitch....I'll let you know what the doctor says tom

AitchTwoOh · 11/03/2007 22:14

oh i'd be grateful if you would.

makesachange · 11/03/2007 22:59

Sounds thrushy to me although NR can look like this without thrush.

Nappy off time where poss, using silk liners, cleansing with plain water, all help. Natural yoghurt too if weaning.

Mumfun · 12/03/2007 13:50
