And some days he has no accidents and some days he'll have 2 or 3, despite being right next to the potty or me asking if he needs to go a few minutes before hand. He is capable of pulling trousers and pants down yet will wee through them when he has his accidents.
Do I persevere with this or put him back into nappies. I get more and more annoyed each time an accident occurs (he turned 2 2weeks ago)

Hi Bug, got a Mindee who is 2 on Wednesday next week, dry day and night, within a week of taking nappies off, wakes at night and asks to go, asks all the time in the day, but do you think I can get him to go Poo on the potty, goes in his pants OK, so not holding onto it, knows he is doing it as goes and hides tried the loo, but not happy there, resorting to watching him like a hawk, doing lots with him next tome, so I can anticipate it, luckily baby mindee is on holiday so have the time this week.

sounds very ealy to me

I would leave it a few months at least.

IME the later you leave it , the quicker and easier they train

burstingbug- he sounds really young to me - although he has some of the signs that he's ready. HE may just not have bladder control yet and may be completely unaware of anything coming.

My ds was 3.5 before it clicked finally. But I did persevere with pants and caused us no end of misery by doing so. I could have saved both myself and ds a lot of heartache, upset, shouting and tears if I'd just accepted that boys in particular are best leaving until later.

I can see that my dd might manage in the summertime when she turns 2, but looking back she's a world apart from where ds was at this age.

Personally I would leave it 6 months and try in the summertime and he'll get it in no time probably.

Do not panic - this is completely normal1

when they are that young they seem to be very hit and miss - when they are older they seem to pick it up more reliably quicker.

If you are getting annoyed then maybe cut out the stress (you don't want him picking up on it) and go back to nappies and try again in the summer.

DS1 takes his nappy off in the morning, from then on he uses the potty - mostly. Even poos in the potty, no problem.
Just wondering if we do revert back to nappies its undoing what we've done so far.
I know its an early age but we were all ready to give it a go and see how things went.

Must admit had quite a few girls who trained at 2 but this is my 1st boy to want to , and it was him wanting to, there is always a potty at the bottom of the stairs (got other mindees) and it was him who wanted his nappy off to go, he was dry within the week, but not so with the poo.

burstingbug · 05/03/2007 15:04

My neice and their friend are both dry in the day and I know my neice is at night too, the 3 of them are the same age (within 5 days of each other). I know boys are harder to train too.

I'm not doing it just because my friend and sil has though. purely coz DS1 was saying wee wee and asking for potty.
