i have just bought a wrap and i am in a total fluster what to do with it. i can't even get the knots right! i would be really grateful if someone could arrange to meet with me and show me what to do as all these pictures and dvds are just not helping.

TIA x

the slip knot is one that girl guides are thought, I hear. It is the same as the sailor's knot.

But any old knot will do. the one they recommend are only less bulky.

To do a slipknot, practice by keeping one stationary and the other end does all the moving.

The wrap I find easiest to show people is the one that is called the front wrap cross carry (FWCC)(variation). You already have the wrap on and tied before you slip the baby in.

I don't live in the midlands but willing to give you anyhelp i can from where i am.

then what do you think of this video?

kiskidee · 31/08/2007 16:52

here is the front wrap cross carry

fizzylemonade · 31/08/2007 19:37

Kiskidee - that is fab video, I had a mai tai wrap (square of material with length of narrow fabric at each corner that you tied)

I now have an Ergo, as my wee one is now 15 month old strapping lad.

Nappyaddict - I hired mine and then subsequently bought them from

www.bigmamaslings.co.uk

they have videos listed by manufacturer under 'how to wear your sling' which includes wraps.

The knot thing is if you tie left over right first then you reverse it for the second knot so right over left. It makes it easier to untie and stronger. I had to do this with my mai tai, I miss that sling.

I live in Leeds so cannot help, sorry.

kiskidee · 31/08/2007 20:34

oops, this was the one i meant to link. not the first one. I think this one is a clear simple wrap.
simple cross carry.

nappyaddict · 31/08/2007 23:36

i'm fine with the knots on my mei tai, but even though i do exactly the same thing it just ends up so bluky and uncomfortable. i think i should have got a shorter one to begin with.

what length wrap are you using? what is your UK dress size? are you tall/short? too many questions?

kiskidee · 31/08/2007 23:54

any style of wrapping you are trying to achieve?

nappyaddict · 01/09/2007 00:13

not sure how tall i am probably about 5 foot 3 or 4. the wrap i've got is a hopp. its just the normal length one. i was trying to do the simplest one which i was told was a fwcc?

OP posts:
kiskidee · 01/09/2007 00:35

that should work fine for you. (i think you mean about 4.5 m - the medium length one) I am the same height and weigh just under 8 st. it is a bit on the long side for me to tie.

a hopp is thinner than a didy or storch but still supportive for a larger child as well.

did you look at the 3rd video I linked to?

nappyaddict · 01/09/2007 00:48

oh really. i was told a hopp was more supportive than a didy or storch. that's why i got it.

OP posts:
kiskidee · 01/09/2007 00:55

yes, it is thinner but not by a lot. possibly cooler in warm weather. i have all three.

kiskidee · 01/09/2007 00:59

i did it twice - linked the wrong video THIS is the one i think shows a simple cross carry best.

sorry.

nappyaddict · 01/09/2007 00:59

which hopp do you have? mines a stripes one.

OP posts:
kiskidee · 01/09/2007 01:03

hopps are all stripey. I have one the Havana. havana is near the bottom

kiskidee · 01/09/2007 01:09

this square knot should work.

put the sling around your waist.

cross teh ends, right hand over left.

starting with the upper end, thread under and over,

now with the bit that is in your left hand (the same bit that was originally in your right hand, thread under and over again

pull real tight.

kiskidee · 01/09/2007 01:16

how to tie a slip knot i hope this is not info overload

kiskidee · 01/09/2007 01:19

forget that - a crying toddler was in the house.

nappyaddict · 01/09/2007 01:21

its the slip knots i have problems with.

i've seen single coloured hopps. mines an osaka or panama i think. i only asked cos i know with some wraps different colourways are not as supportive as others.

OP posts:
kiskidee · 01/09/2007 01:24

now i think i have the right video

nappyaddict · 01/09/2007 01:27

oooh that looks easier. i will definitely have a go with that in the morning.
