Ok I have a freedom ring sling(very kindly lent to me by Jilly)

I have watched some lovely links and videos(very kindly linked by babieseverywhere)

but I still feel a little nervous

The lady in the link I saw had her babies head to the side without the rings, is this the norm or is it personal choice??

Also the baby(it was a doll) looked a little like she was lying with her head lower than her body, hpw do you sort that??

Is it ok for me to try and do the vertical hold with a 3 week old. I have watched the video and they did with the outer rail up over the babies head to support it, is that ok?

You can see I'm a worrier and on my third child before learning of these wonderful things.

Any tips, links, experiences would thoroughly appreciated, TIA

Morning Trinity. The contact details for the people who made the sling are on here . If you ring and say that you have one they are usually happy to advise you - you can even tell them that you have borrowed one, and if you like it you are going to buy one from them?

TrinityRhino · 05/03/2007 08:12

thanks jilly

dd3 is asleep in the vertical hold in the sling, I ttried it this morning for the first time and was able to make toast and butter it using two hands with a content baby on me and then she fell asleep whilst I buttered and is now peacefully snoozing and I have eaten, slings are great

YAY!

Oh I am so glad that it working for you

SoupDragon · 05/03/2007 11:03

Excelletn. Slings are indeed fabulous I remember flipping pancakes with BabyDragon fast asleep in hers last year.

tassis · 05/03/2007 12:50

sorry trinity, I was going to post that ladies details today (dd was asleep in the room they were in last night!) but I see jilly's beaten me to it.

i really must figure mine out too as dd is getting heavy in the BB and sling is so handy for drop off/pick up at ds' nursery (no real space for prams)

Hi, am new to MN is there a thread to introduce ourselves on or do we just wade straight in as I am doing here? Thanks.

I had a freedom ring sling for my baby and never seemed to get on with the cradle hold. Also she seemed to prefer tummy to tummy anyway (wind).
There is a site called mamatoto which has good instructions for babywearing.

BikeBug · 06/03/2007 10:44

Not sure if anyone else has said it, but the one thing I stumbled with was not having the sling done up tight enough - amazing how little space between sling and body is needed to slip a small baby (or evena hulking great 1-year old) into. Once I had figured that out, I was away! Ring slings are great, so are ergos (mmmm, ergos!), and I've just this morning had my Coorie delivered. You'll never look back - two hands to carry stuff and get on with life while baby is happy, not screaming to be picked up.

oh thank god for this thread.....I've tried various holds and they all seem to squash my 12lb 10 week old DD who loathes the cradle hold. i've tried the kangaroo hold - vertical, her facing outwards and legs folded infront of her tummy. Is that right?? How do you organise it so she's facing in to me - are her legs between the inside rail of the sling and me? Is she big enough for that to be safe? Oh help - I'm not using it because it all feels so precarious!

Beachcomber · 06/03/2007 14:05

Thank you for welcomes

Have lurked for a while and read loads of very interesting things, this site is a breath of fresh air.

Jillyadoodledoo · 06/03/2007 15:07

Welcome Beachcomber - You don't have to introduce yourself - just jump in and start posting.
Runninglate - I had exactly the same problems really, but never sorted it out (which is why Trinity has my sling at the moment!). Hopefully BE will be back later.

SoupDragon · 06/03/2007 15:09

Runninglate, IIRC it's the same facing in as it is out - ie they sit kind of cross legged down inthe pouchy bit and you pull up the outer rail as far as necessary to support them. I had BabyDragon in the Coorie like this facing in but have never really mastered getting her in facing out which is a shame as she loved it. She never felt secure facing out and I felt I had to support her with one hand.

Runninglate · 07/03/2007 20:56

I have the same problem - she just tips from side to side and i worry about her falling out front ways. Perhaps I don't have it deep enough

I saw someone today who said that the ring slings are the biz for older babies and toddlers.

SoupDragon · 08/03/2007 13:44

Stuff ring slings... too much faffing (I tried one and hated it) . BabyDragon is now 12 months old and still comfortable in her Coorie. I think in the summer when she's walking better I'll switch to a hip seat to pop her on and off easier though but come winter I hope she'll be back in the Coorie!
