Baby Bjorn: pros and cons (sorry if this is an oft-repeated topic)

Okay, had it with her whining when she's put down and being a big sprawly lump who does my arms in when I hold her and hating the sling and giggling when I hold her so she's upright and looking at my face. I am going to buy a Baby Bjorn today! Are there people who hated theirs? Why was that?

lol Mrs Apron - the idea of terrifying vast swathes of surrey makes the whole thing even more appealing

I tried loads of slings and baby bjorn was the only one I found comfy.

Had baby bjorn for DS. Was fine for the first four months then couldn't use because DS was too big and heavy. Based on mumsnet advice we have an ergo for DD. To be honest, when she was little I found it quite hard to use. With a baby bjorn there is only one way to wear it, so that is obviously the 'right' way. With an ergo, for a little baby you need the insert, and you have to fiddle around more.

HOWEVER!!!!!, now DD is 4 months, I love, love, love, love my Ergo. It is very comfortable and I am looking forward to getting alot of use out of it.

Okay, thank you for all the messages, they were greatly appreciated and caused much web surfing and humming and hah-ing. In the end, I was still a bit giddy and went for the Bjorn. She has so far screamed her head off going in it. My shoulders hurt A LOT from wearing it for 10 mins with her. But I really like it, none the less, it is very easy to use and she looks cute in it.

another problem with Baby Bjorns are that if the sun /wind is in the baby's face, he can't turn away from it.

I had a Baby Bjorn and a Huggababy. Both fabulous for differnet ages and stages and depending on what we were doing.

You can always ebay it next month

Ha ha! We'll see what she's like with it today. Eventually her resolve will weaken.

'Eventually her resolve will weaken'

You obviously don't have a stubborn little monster like mine. Don't like to admit it but I think he takes after me there! If anyone's resolve weakens in our house, it's always mine, no matter how hard I try...

Baby bjorns are the best IMO, I have had ring slings, and wrap sling but nothing beats the simplicityand ease of the baby bjorn. I had a summer edition last time, it was lightweight and I used it with my DS up until around 6 months (2 months longer than DS 1)

Slings like the baby bjorn tomy etc are not great for a few reasons some of them being: the biggest reason is that they dangle the baby from the crotch putting a lot of pressure on the spine which is not a good thing, slings like the ergo, mei tai that tye of thing do not dangle the baby they hold the baby in a sitting position with legs splayed in their natural sitting position. baby bjorns do get very uncomfotable very quickly, the people that have made it to 4 months well done.

The ergo is a fantastic carrier but is only suitbale from about 5-6 months. I was going to recommend a Mei Tai actually I used a few of these from birth with DS and they are great and very easy to get on and adjust.

Hurray, she likes it now. The vain little creature: all I had to do was turn down the head support and let her see herself in the mirror and she was all smiles. Not sure whether me and my shoulders are going to get on with it for long, but we'll see. It will make going out for a lunch time take away from the sushi bar a doddle - it's far too small to take a pram.
