NAPPY ADDICTS!! HELP ME! ........ Goddamn expensive WOOL wraps....

which one should I buy? I'm gonna buy one tonight, brand new!! (Pushing the boat out here!)
Ds1 is 20 months and is a very heavy wetter at night. This is my last attempt to sort it before it's back to 2 disps per night.
I am loving the cute stripy ones as they will double up as shorts in summer meaning I wont need to shoe-horn him into anything else. (I only have 2 pairs of C4C shorts and 1 trousers- they are expensive too! lol)
As these wraps are expensive, I want real advice on which is better and why....

Yay! Looking forward to seeing your lovely wrap - watch out you don't dye anything red!

You could felt the wool first by putting it into the washing machine on a warm wash and spinning it - unless it is that dratted machine washable wool that refuses to shrink!!!

fionaw · 03/03/2007 12:47

I need some help as my washing machine is taking the strain!!! My 7 month old boy wakes up every morning without fail absolutely soaking wet. he has always worn moltex nappies but recently thay have changed them slightly and now they don't last the night. What do you all use and do they hold a night of wee?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 03/03/2007 12:51

didnt think of dying stuff red! goddamn!
i have washed it on 90deg and am off to look now. it didnt look particul;arly ruined when i spied it earlier in the machine....

Hi Fiona I have to say, my little boy wears disposable nappies at night sometimes, because of a skin problem - they do keep his skin (specifically, his peepee )clear, but they are really bad for leaking - all types.
It seems to be a combination of the nappy getting too full and also shifting as the baby wriggles around during sleep.
We have ended up putting a cloth nappy over the top and a wool wrap, just in case.
If I were you, I would start a new thread, otherwise people might not see your question.
Best of luck!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 03/03/2007 12:55

i have gone with cloth over a disp before at night.
my son pees for england which is why i am crafting wooly pants to see if some evaporation will help!

LadyF - if it doesn't felt, you could use two layers, or at least a couple of layers around the wettest area.
I have quite a few WAHM (work at home mum) wraps, which are coloured and do leak dye a bit, but I either wash them in the sink - doesn't take long, just use a bit of baby wash then do a low spin. Or do a half load wool wash and wash all the dark wool wraps together and let them take their chances.
How did it come out??? [interested face]

fionaw · 03/03/2007 12:58

I have just been reading this thread more closely and am amazed!!! Am i right in thinking you gals are cutting up wooly jumpers and putting them in the wash so they felt a bit and then use them as a nappy? I have been using cloth too and hadn't thought about putting a cloth over a disposble but if you think it may work, i'll give it a go.

maisiemog · 03/03/2007 12:59

Second that - cloth over night doesn't leak as much as disps, because you can vary the amount of padding with cloth. If you put on a well-boosted cloth nappy and well-fitting wool wrap it should go the night even if you child looks like a bee-bum.

maisiemog · 03/03/2007 13:00

Fionaw - must disabuse you. The wool is felted to be made into a wrap, although I'm sure you could make a wool nappy.

fionaw · 03/03/2007 13:05

WOW I am not a regular to mumsnet but this is better than any book!!! I can't believe what you talk about and what you get up too. Fantastic. Well i am really hacked off with finding my ds wet through every morning and with all the washing so he will have to look like a bee bum for a while i suppose. I was told to use that well known dipsosable brand but i am loathed to buy them and so will try alternative methods for now.

Disps nearly always leak on my DS overnight (tried the chlorine free ones and they actually seem to be disintergrating overnight!!!)

A boosted bamboo worked perfectly. Huggles is next on my list - I really am gonna have sod all profits!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 03/03/2007 14:55

ds1 looks like a 'bee bum' every night.i carry him to bed as he walks with his legs wide apart and gets frustrated- lol. bless 'im. he cant get up the stairs!!
ok.............drum roll...........
i have made my wooly pants frommy m&s gents jumper.
it would not felt btw. it just shrank a bit meaning i had to make a wrap for ds2 who has enough wooly ones anyway- lucky bloss is sending me hers!!
btw bloss, i have mailed you. sorry for the delay. x
i will take a pic of it now and put a link to my picturetrail for you all to laugh at as my pics wont 'fit' on mumsnet!

any one got a knitting pattern to make your own wooly shorts style wrap? I've got a knitter l lined up....
It might stop her knitting hats for the boy he has more than enough already.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/03/2007 10:08

thenappylady.co.uk has one. if you click on wool wraps.
i think wool wraps is on there twice when you find it it is the one closest to the right, if that makes sense, i doubt it! lol

OP posts:
Mumfun · 07/03/2007 21:02

you dont need to buy Lanolin if you have any left over Lansinoh - it is the same thing but just very good quality.

FionaW. I had 3 years of a heavy wetting boy. With what I know now I would have tried a thick bamboo nappy boosted with bamboo boosters with a thick wool wrap over.

What I did use at the time were thick fleece pocket nappies. I found minkis and pitterpatter ones were good. I stuffed them with hemp stuffers- 3 layer Jam tots are especially good. I would also now try bamboo stuffers as they could be brilliant

junkinmytrunk · 07/03/2007 21:08

Gorgeous ones here, made to measure and she'll lanolise them for you as well

sea horse slacks

LadyOfTheFlowers · 07/03/2007 21:58

those seahorse slacks are gorgeous and very reasonably priced!
mumfun- tell me more about your heave wetter. my boy pees for england!! hencei am trying wool.

OP posts:
Mumfun · 09/03/2007 21:39

hi

dont know what more to say - he ate and drank a lot hence produced a lot. He weed through most nappies and through disposables overnight.

But a well stuffed minki pocket coped and also kept him dry as they are fleece lined. Hes still in one at night as he is potty training at the mo. Hes 3.3.

Does that help?
