He's repaid his student loan from his previous degree.

He's seen a cousrse he wants to do, and we have a good case for other financial help. However, we can't even consider it without a student loan.

Anyone have a clue?

He is entitled to a student loan, but not entitled to any help with tuition fees ( ie maintenance grants etc)

what's he planning on doing? As he's got a first degree he only needs to do a GDL (one year f/t or 2 years p/t). They're around 3.5 - 4K and you can get career development loans to cover tuition fees. He'll be able to find out more from the institution he plans to study with.

Thanks geekgirl,

He's got a Biology degree, which he finished about 12 years ago.

He wants to do the OU course, so he can fit it around work (he's thinking of going pt, and we need to make sure we can make up the defecit in his earnings from elswhere)

Also, will they take into accoun he has 3 dependants (ie me and 2 dss?)

I wouldn't go for the OU TBH IMHO - he needs to go somewhere with an excellent, very pushy careers service, like the College of Law or BPP if he'd be interested in corporate work. Also, these schools tend to have good links with local law firms, CABs etc., the OU won't. Add to this the cost of doing it with the OU - twice as much as with other providers -, and I really can't see the point if he's already got a degree.

The CoL do a p/t distance-learning GDL where you only attend at weekends once a month or less, it costs 3.5K in total.

Cool, thanks for that.

I'll let him know
