What night-time nappies do you use for a 5+ yr old?

We used only cloth for years but 5yo DC was getting sores on bits, so recently switched to cloth every other night, alternating with disps (Maxi-size).

I imagine everyone else uses disposable pull-ups... do you?

Am mostly just curious, but would be interested if anyone has suggestions for getting us back to 100% cloth.

Err 5 years old ? Well, none obviously at that age. Might it be better to try and go without to avoid any sore bits.

quadrophenia · 28/02/2007 19:47

what a lovely post trifle, my ds aged 5 sdtill wets occasionally at nights and when we are away we use dry nights and FYI he doesn't get sore bits

JoPG · 28/02/2007 19:54

There are many 5 year olds who still where nappies at night (or night time pants, as we call them). We always go for disposables though with my 5 year old son, so I'm afraid I can't help you with a cloth option peanutbutterkid.

I had to switch to dry nights, they are the only things that will work now, he is six.

Crocky · 28/02/2007 19:57

Oh and thanks for that piece of advice Trifle, although I imagine that sleeping all night in a wet bed might make ds a little sore!

DeviousDaffodil · 28/02/2007 19:59

My 5 yr old was in the dri nites only ones big enough.
Thanks Trifle, lucky you not having a bed wetter.

KTeePee · 28/02/2007 20:13

We use dry-nites too but I wish I had bought reusables it is going on so long and costing a fortune. I think you can get pull-up type resuables (seem to remember being on a thread about them months ago) but don't know the specifics...

Crocky · 28/02/2007 20:19

Dry nights are half price at Asda at the moment.

PandaG · 28/02/2007 20:24

So agree re wishing I had bought washables. I used washables all the time when she was in nappies during the day. DD is nearly 5, and still wets every night. we use size 6 ordinary disp. nappies, find that the pull up style don't contain all the wee!

fannyannie · 28/02/2007 20:26

we don't use any......but he's not dry (FYI Trifle - and he's 6 1/2yrs old......) just refuses to wear any form of nappy/pull-up in bed so we have a daily routine of bed changing.

makesachange · 01/03/2007 11:38

Peanut,

EVERYONE is right - 5yo is VERY COMMON to still be bed wetting.

What cloth were you using? How wet is your son (one accident or soaked)? Any thoughts from him of being able to cope with going to the loo by himself in the night or is that just not an option at the moment? (It makes a difference to your options).

I'm not bothered by what Trifle said, I mean, 2 of mine were dry at night by 2.5yo, so I suppose that could have been me being smug once, too!

DD is the 5yo; she is soaked every morning, definitely not able to wake up and go as needed. Was just curious what people use.

I don't envy you, fannyannie.

DD is 5 and wets every night as well. We use an extra large minky huggle with a riebs wrap.

fannyannie · 01/03/2007 17:38

Peanut - it used to bug me - but now it's so much part of the daily routine I don't even think about it - get him up, strip the bed - put a load of washing on, give him a wash so he smells a little fresher and make up the bed again.

MeMyselfI · 01/03/2007 17:41

I was going to say something to Trifle but really can't be arsed. Others have already said it.

Ds was dry at night by 3, but my daughter is 6 and still in night nappies. We used to use Easy Up Pants but found they weren't up to the job. We then went on to Tescos Active Fit in their largest size which did the job really well, but dd complained that they were like babies nappies so we've started to use Pyjama Pants, which have been fine so far.

If you wanted to go back to cloth you could try Motherease Bedwetter Pants, they come in larger sizes and fit like a pull-up. They are pretty expensive, though, and take ages to dry but they do seem to be quite good.

makesachange · 01/03/2007 20:03

Sorry Peanut, I miss-read your post as "DS" not "DC".

There are a few different washable night time nappies around, but it's hard to find one big enough for a 5 year old. As Me says, ME bedwetters are an option. The Minki YoYo is another - it comes in big enough sizes for your daughter. Both give her the option to pull-up if she feels the urge.

Alternatively you MAY find that the new style Bambineos fit. They are a 2 part bamboo nappy needing a wrap, but fit large toddlers/small children as well as babies. If she's not bothered by a nappy it's a cheaper nappy and extremely good. It will be pushing the size, though. Depends on how big she is.

On the sposie side I can't really help with conventional sposies as I can't stand them and never use them, however Bambo make an eco disposable training pant which is supposed to be absorbant enough for overnight, and big enough for your daughter.

Hope this helps a bit,

Emma
