Hoovering with a new born?

My little one is due in a few weeks and among all the other worries I've suddenly thought- how do you hoover with a baby in the house? Do you just go ahead and stop if they cry, but then what if they never get used to it? Do you wait till someone else is around to take them into another room? Or have you never really had any problems hoovering?

You just do. Most won't notice. They are already used to it. They can hear in the womb.

Most like white noise like hoovering.

Dont know of we had a weird one but our ds loved it?!

Its basically like white noise for them and I am not ashamed to say we brought the hoover out once or twice to help him get to sleep.

Hoovering is white noise so baby is likely to find it soothing! Best to try to get baby used to normal house noises so act normal

Agree with previous posters - many babies love it. I would avoid allowing the baby to get used to silence in the house - get them used to the noise asap.

My DC loved the sound of the hoover. We used to put it on at night sometimes to get him off to sleep. Our neighbours must have thought we were bonkers.

Mine was fine with it until she was about 6 months and became terrified of it. Good excuse not to hoover. She even runs away wailing if you try to get the Hoover out the cupboard now 😂

A family members baby would fall asleep and stop screaming when the Hoover was switched on....so at 3am.....guess what!!!

I didn't even think about it with my two, I just did it, needed doing so did it.

Agree with others. Do not make your home silent. Hoover, put washing on and make as much noise as you want. Babies will sleep through most of it. My 2 week old loves the hairdryer when it's on and I can hoover round her cot and she won't even stir.

The baby will probably love it! if my baby is crying she usually stops as soon as I turn the vac on she loves it!

The sound of the hoover and hairdryer soothed DS to sleep when he was newborn, DH and I used to take it in turns to hold the hairdryer to soothe him to sleep until we realised we were running up a big electricity bill and discovered white noise apps!

Newborns love Hoovers. Stick baby in a sling and get on with it - I can 90% guarantee they will enter a coma.

Newborns sleep through almost anything (except hunger!). Many toddlers on the other hand seem to hate loud noises. DD is terrified of the hand dryers in public loos for example.

When my son was about 5 months I noticed him getting a glazed look in his eyes and falling asleep when I hoovered.So basically if I ever needed him to go to sleep on command I turned the hoover on .It was brilliant.He always fell asleep on aeroplanes when they started the engines and of course in the car. so it had obviously got something to do with the deep monotone sound.He was a very, very active child otherwise .He is now a teenager and loves his sleep.

What hoovering?! I had a c-section, so couldn't hoover for the first 6 weeks anyway. Not that we ever did it often.

Thank you everyone for your comments! I hope hoovering will be a sleepy trigger for my little one when she comes. Otherwise I have a good excuse not to bother with it for a while, so good news all round!

One thing i learnt from experience, was get your baby used to household noises right from the off! We made the mistake of trying to keep house quiet whe our first born slept and she became a nightmare, as a result. Would only settle in quiet! 2nd time round we had tv, washing machine, vaccuum etc going as required and baby settled a treat.

Mine loved the sound of the hoover too. If you can't be bothered to actually hoover there is a white noise app with a hoover setting.
Much better than hoovering at 3am or anytime
