4 yrs old and still in nappies at night

My daughter is 4 years old, but still wearing a nappy at night (which is evidently used by the morning). During the day, her toilet control is very good. Does anyone have any advice about how to get her out of nappies at night? She talks about it, but there never seems to be the right time to do it.

Maybe you should try some washable night pants,so she feels wet and gets the control.the only way to do it is just go for it ,and she will learn to control herself.good luck

some children simply arent ready for this at4... and if she's not dry any nights and not bothered then maybe she's not. if you try to gether out of nappies and all that happens is bedwettingevery night its a real pain.... for you. first steps might be.... changing to drinites (pull ups), peeing just before sleep, not masses of water at bedtime / in night..... see if she can do any dry nights in pull ups....

Some children do take longer than others. My eldest was 7 and needed an eneuresis alarm before he was dry at night - my youngest is 5 and still in nappies at night.

If she's talking about it and keen to try (my 5 year old is) you could give it a go. We've just started with pull-ups and he's managed a couple of dry nights in them (he had to get up to go to the loo though). He was distraught when the pull-up wasn't dry though - so you do have to go gently. In some ways it's better not to use a nappy substitute - but I've gone the pull-up route because I don't want his nights to be too disturbed by wetting the bed (he's just started school). if he's not dry by the summer holidays I think we might try going commando.

Above all, don't worry about it, and don't get stressed if she does wet: I promise she will get there in the end (one good thing about ds1 not being dry til almost 8 - anything less than that is a bonus )

My daughter 'grew' out of it at about four and half. We restricted her drinks before bed, ensured she had a wee before going to bed but she was still wet in the morning. She got to a stage where it started to wake her up too which was frustrating. In the end I tried a sticker chart with an incentive at the end and though it took about a month we finally got there. For every 10 nights she got a magazine or a something with the bigger 'prize' at the end.

I don't really like sticker charts and haven't used them for anything else but it seemed to have an effect.

She was potty trained at 23 months and took about a week and a half. My second took months in the day but was dry at night from the start at 2.5 - you can just never tell

It isn't unusual to still be in night time nappies at 4, both my girls were. I think they finally went dry at night at about 4.5, but it varies hugely. Try not to worry about it.

My ds is 5 in march and still in nappies at night. After talking to the HV she said that until he is 7 there is no need for concern.

My dd is 2 1/2 and has been dry for 3 weeks at night so makes me wonder LOL

I would say though if any problems do talk to you HV as they make you feel normal!!

snap Rubybees

my DS is 5 in April & no sign of being dry at night - his nappy (bedtime pants) are fuller than his 2 1/2 yr old sister who seems to be dry
