Am I a 'hard' mum?

My son had a friend over for tea last night, they're 8.

I made spaghetti bolognese and left it on the plates as most people do, spaghetti on bottom and bolognese on top, that's how my kids have always had it.

Anyway my sons friend looked a bit confused, looked at me and said very politely "erm, I don't have mine like that, I don't like it...could you please mix it up for me so that the spaghetti turns red?"

Due to the polite way in which he asked I did it for him but I was a bit confused as to why he doesn't just mix it up himself?? My kids always have...do some parents pander to their kids too much or am I just a witch?

I agree with Enid. Be nice to your guests people

I am a food faschist with my children but hopefully jolly mummy with guests and will happily pander to their dietary wishes.
I remember as a child hating friends mother's meals as it all tasted weird.

I serve the spaghetti first with the bol on top and then a little grated cheese on top and they eat it without much mess or mixed up. They are 4 and 6.

the boy has eight years experience of life.

He is used to the routines of his own family and has little experience of dining out.

Agree with enid.

Whenever my dd has friends over (they're all 5-6) they always (without exception) decide they need to poo - and I always end up wiping their bum. Isn't it just that although they can try, their arms aren't long enough to do it properly (they're often still too hung up about not being able to see if they've wiped it clean). Hey..look..it's not really a big deal...of course I'll look forward to the day when their arms have grown, but I'd like to think that other mums would do the same. Five year old sensitivities over this are far more important, I think. My daughter would be so embarrassed if she was seen as pooey having left the bathroom...Food is a different matter - friends get what I serve and there's no alternative!

Aw poor boy, we all have our food quirks don't we? I had to have a word with my works canteen lady as she always put cheese on my jacket spud before the beans and it use to really drive me nuts so asked her very nicely if she could indulge me and put the beans on first

I agree with others he is used to seeing the food habits at home with little or no experience of doing it any other way.
I think we do all get caught up in things that we do at home and never get out the habit of not to deliberately baby them.DD who is only 3 mind you eats almost anything but there are a few things I know that she would look at if served a different way still knowing full well what they are but atill not the same.
I think the boy was so sweet in the way he asked though.

I always put the pasta into the sauce & then serve (but I worked in Italy for 3yrs & it's blasphemy to do otherwise)as all the pasta will be coated with sauce, much easier to mix it up in the pot than on a plate!

Poor wee guy, it's just what he's used to - good on him for having the confidence to ask you to mix it up for him!
