Weeing on the Bedroom Floor!!

DS is 3.5 years old and asked not to have a nappy on for bed a couple of weeks ago. We obliged, to see how it went for one day, and all went great, with DS running downstairs (unfortunately we don't have an upstairs bathroom).

After that first day though, he's started weeing on his bedroom floor every morning. Each day I wake up really early and ask him if he needs a wee. He says he's already had a wee. I ask where, and he shows me the spot on his bedroom floor where he's had his wee.

No matter what I say he won't stop doing it. His bed has stayed dry every night, and his pants have stayed dry too, so I assume he's ready? I thought maybe putting a potty there, but then he'll think it's ok to wee in his bedroom... or is he too young and can't make it downstairs? I'll be surprised if that's it though, because when we're out he can wait a good 10-20 minutes to go to a toilet.

Any suggestions?

we've had exactly the same problem with DD although she was 4.5 at the time. With us though there was no excuse for it as she hadn't recently started going through the night without nappy etc.

We ended up putting what is soon to be DS2's potty next to her bed (on the patch where she would wee) and she doesn't tend to wee on carpet anymore, but doesn't really wee in the potty either lol

I think that since your loo is downstairs it would be an idea to put a potty in his room, or even just outside the room and gently remind him about it every bedtime. I haven't had the luxury of having stairs yet (we're in a flat) so couldn't say for sure, but he may be a bit apprehensive about going down the stairs on his own.

If his carpet starts to smell (ours became abolutely rank!) then a tip I was given is to put some white vinegar over the area. The vinegar neutralises the alkaline and should get rid of any smell. I haven't tried this but it makes sense that it would work. Also it has to be white vinegar or his room will end up smelling like the local chip shop
