I want soft nappies!

It only seemed like 5 mins ago I was putting a bright white, soft tots bot on my newborn. Now they are all grey even my pastel ones and my newborn is nearly 10 months!
I think I'm due some nice cute fluffy naps any suggestions?
Our tumble drier is out of action for now so I need some that will stay soft.

Bloody men. They just dont get the importance of the fluffy nappy do they? I'm thinking of some kissas but they still go hard without the tumble drier. Searching the web..

I've heard vinegar in the fabric conditioner part of your machine does the trick. If they have gone a bit grey try some Oxy Clean (? think that's what it is called) in with the powder and if possible dry them outside so the sun can bleach them.

I must be strange because I don't mind crunchy nappies, I always feel they are more absorbant. My DS2 wears a fleece liner inside them so they are comfortable enough then they soften up first time they are pee'd on. I think I was in the minority liking crunchy bath towels too so I am perhaps a bit odd.

forever fluffy ones are kissaluvs... mmm too cute and fluffy for words!

karen99 · 19/06/2004 14:11

I'm still not sure if the vinegar softens them or not. I've left it out the last couple of loads and haven't seen much difference..

I love my bumbles as the fleece inner is always soft even if the outside gets a bit crunchy on the line. Waiting for a Bumhugger to try which is hemp and fleece lined... can't wait for it to arrive!

Tigerlillies · 19/06/2004 15:20

Hmm vinegar doesn't work for us and the smell is awful whilst it is washing.
Another forum recommended Ecobabes and Cutie Patootie and they are so cute so I'll try them. Has anyone anyone tried these? Ahem where is dh's credit card....
Thanks for the tip on oxyclean I will try that with the next wash, I'm sure I have some somewhere.

I'm with you on the crunchie towels and nappies, Demented. I used white wine vinegar and it seemed to work.

muddaofsuburbia · 19/06/2004 19:26

Bizarrely I've only had crunchy nappies when my mum washed my tots at her house - and that was in soft Scottish water!

I always tumble them for 20-30 mins and then stick them in the airing cupboard or out to dry and they've always been fine. But I always use Calgon in my washing machine so maybe that makes a difference too?

I fancy bumbles too because of the fleece inner. Karen - haven't you got enough nappies already!?!?

Speaking of softness - have you ladies seen these gorgeous creations !!

kiwicath · 19/06/2004 19:27

Aw, don't get me started on crispy, line dried towels - bliss!!! As for the naps, many a time I've put them on crispy but after checking a while later (and still dry) they are magically soft again. Fleece liners are a quick fix and incredibly effective. I was very sceptical in the beginning and bought years worth of boots disposable liners but I'm hooked on the fleece now.

Tigerlillies · 19/06/2004 19:44

Well now you describe them as crunchy and crispy maybe they don't seem so bad after all.
Dont tell dh that I still NEED new nappies.

I also used vinegar, followed by tumble drying. There was a thread recently about towels, and it's a similar principle for nappies...

pesme · 19/06/2004 20:21

Good grief, hard to believe how obsessed we all are with nappies (I spent most of my pregnancy researhing them). I think we should all go out tomorrow and buy some lipstick (or equivalent frivolous object).

karen99 · 20/06/2004 12:19

LOL pesme!

Mudda, yes too many nappies.. but I blame you for my addiction! Really want a nice trim nappy for ds so he fits beautifully into outfit for bil's wedding in Aug. If hemp is as good as the sites say it is...

[PS, mudda, ds has been walking for a week! just in time for his first birthday!]

Demented · 21/06/2004 12:11

Phew glad it's not just me who doesn't mind the crunchy ones!

Muddaofsuburbia the Tots polka dot wrap can be purchased from Bellescouches and they have 15% off in their sale! The company is also run by a Mumsnetter (not me BTW in case anyone thinks I'm after a bit of advertising).

Ilona · 21/06/2004 17:34

Hi ! New here. It's nice to find other people using reusable nappies... yes, I am obsessed as well...

karen99 · 23/06/2004 16:34

Hi Ilona

Tigerlillies · 23/06/2004 20:42

Wow the Ecobabe nappy arrived in super quick time today. They are the softest things ever created! I don't want to put them on his bottie until I have admired them for a while longer.
And my fleece polka dot tots bot from bellescouches arrived too, very cute!
